E-mailing women and setting up a time to first meet

I've been reading some of David DeAngelo's work, and it seems, when asking if the woman would like to meetup, add the email and "if we do not hit it off, I look at it as I've made a new friend." It's that counter-productive? I finally got a woman to email me on one of these dating sites, and I am about to ask to meet. I've been considering adding something like that, but I am concerned it might come off wrong. Should I include that line, reword it, skip it?
