So I've just started online dating and am wondering: In your experience, of the people you've met online, do they usually fall below, meet, or exceed your initial impression from their online profile?

How long is a piece of string? Generally speaking, I find that people tend to look pretty much like their photos. I have come across a few stinkers, though. Generally, they are the ones with really blurry or indistinct photos, or just one photo from an angle that flatters them. I did meet someone once whose main pic was pretty average (she looked good in her other pics, but they were indistinct) but when I met her, I found her very attractive.

As far as personality goes, you can get some ideas but it's hard to really know what they're like until you've at least spoken on the phone.

I've just come back from meeting a guy from online. Saw a few photos and spoke on the phone a few times. He looked better in his photos.. so I would say he fell below my initial impression of him, not that I was going on looks alone but his personality didn't do it for me either. I am tired of online dating now, it is not for me.

Every girl I've meet has exceeded my expectations physically. They have always been more attractive then I thought. Maybe I'm just fortunate. The girl I just started seeing was also better looking in person (not bad in the photo by any means). The thing that is harder to tell is whether they have a cold/black heart or not.

Talk to her over two or three emails, call her and set up a date, and then you will know soon enough.

Almost every person I met as a result of online dating exceeded their profile, both in appearance and especially in personality. The one time they fell below, it was when I didn't trust my gut. I was feeling iffy about the guy from the beginning (not in that he-could-be-an-ax-murderer way), but since he was the first I thought I'd be nice and give it a try. Never again.

From my experiences, 99% of them never got to IRL. Of 3 that did, one just about fit my expectations, one needed companionship but was mean-spirited, and the 3rd was controlling and tried to use the Jedi mind trick on me.

I had a great experience with EH this summer. All of the girls were better looking IRL than their photos. I feel you can't tell anything from what they write in terms of their personalities. Face to face is the only way to see if you have compatible personalities.

I also met a couple amazing women. Really had their **** together. It didn't work out long term, but I'm glad I did it.
