Assuming your SO doesn't post here or read these boards, anyone have any gift ideas yet they'd like to share? I think LDR's present their own unique gift-giving challenges with respect to when the exchanging takes place, etc.

Please tell me my SO and I aren't the only crazy ones to have gotten ours already. :lmao:

We'll be exchanging after Christmas. We thought it'd mean more to do it in person rather than ship everything ahead.

CE and I have gifts already for each other, or at least I think we both do. :p

I am not giving her any hints and see hates it.:p

Hehehe my SO showed everyone my gift and it's driving me nuts.

I get hassled on a daily basis about it. I love it.

My boyfriend went to Thailand a year ago on a missions trip and fell in love with this coffee they had there. So I'm getting that coffee shipped to him for Christmas since he hasn't had any since he got back. :)

That's a great idea!

Oh I won't. I surprised her with flowers at work one day and she kept asking me about that surprise as well.;)

She has threatened to come on here and tell everyone including me what I am getting. Unlike her I like surprises so I hope she doesn't.

OK, so my boyfriend has this laptop that is meh. When he runs Skype's webcam or plays Minecraft it's been heating up to these ungodly temperatures. So I dug around and found this.

My SO is a science nerd, and loves magnets and puzzles. So I am also thinking about getting him this, too.

I will probably get him some underwear and socks also, since his are looking pretty raggedy.

And I think that covers it... being in an LDR puts us on a tight budget. :o

I totally hear 'ya on the budget thing. My SO and I tried to set one, but I think it's pretty safe to say neither of us stuck to it.

That computer fan is a great idea, I've never seen anything like that before!

I got so wordy in my OP that I forgot to mention my gift. :lmao:

I got my SO a signed Pink Floyd gold album. Only problem is I bought it when he was originally supposed to be driving up here. Now that he's decided to fly, I'll have to get it shipped to his house if it presents a problem on the plane.

Even though Mathew and I aren't LDR anymore I still feel like I'm a part of this board, sooooo... I'm thinking about getting him a Kinect for his XBOX. Although, it's really more of a gift for me since I really really really want to play Kinectimals.

And why, yes, I AM a 5 year old trapped in a 22 year olds body! :p

You are very much a part of this board, you give us all hope. :)

I want one of those too and I'm older than you don't worry. And hey, giving a gift you'll also enjoy is always good too!

The fan is a great idea. My battery died on my laptop (and I've been too lazy to get a new one, lol) so I have to plug mine in to use it all the time now and a fan really helps keep it cooler. The magnetic puzzle looks cool too. :)

RC I will be soooo jealous of your husband if you get him a kinect! I wanted to get my boyfriend a new xbox with the kinect included and like you it would've been more like a gift to myself, lol. But he hates the xbox so I guess I'll have to wait to find an excuse to buy it since we're supposed to be saving money right now.

My SO and I aren't LDR yet (Saturday's the big day... :/ ) but he's given me my gift already, an Xbox Kinect. :) It's great fun, I wasn't expecting it at all as I haven't even started buying gifts yet! Not sure what I am going to get him yet, I want to get him something special but it all depends what I can fit in my suitcase!

Mine came about more as a retaliation surprise cos he won't tell me what he has planned  but I can't wait to tell him what it is. :bunny: I like making my man smile.

Hope you're enjoying the Kinect!!! You can always have the gift shipped too; I've done this way too many times. :lmao:

We'll be here for 'ya on Saturday. :)

told DH not to expect anything until after the first of the year since I've had unplanned (and expensive) dental work done yesterday, which has thrown off my budget big time.

meanwhile, I've got stuff stockpiled throughout the year for the kids in the family, so I'll work on those projects, and bake or cook for the adults in the family. It's definitely going to be a home-grown Christmas this year ...

I play Minecraft and I'm a PC nerd :p. Minecraft can be pretty CPU intensive when certain things occur.

But, my problem:

I'm a college kid no job, absolutely not a dime to my name. I WOULD have some extra cash, but I have to pay for a $125 PC Networking Certification for a class, its mandatory (I don't know where im getting the money to pay for it either, and I must take it or i don't pass the class)

So yeah, I'm flat broke. I'm looking for a few extremely cheap ideas, not to sound cheap or anything. I just don't have the money to do something special.

Just some cheap but thoughtful ideas. Anything with crafts or drawing is out. I'm terrible at both. So, ideas?

I'm making him a desktop calendar with pictures of us (Grobyc, you can make them easily at Walmart for $10 - the layout/designs are all standard and you just toss on the pics), at which point I realized long distance really sucks b/c I don't actually have a good variety of pics of us together. :/

Every so often we prepare our gifts, i.e., bake cookies or breads, empanadas are pretty popular with our friends; one year we gave coffee mugs with packets of cocoa to go with the cookie baskets. People seem to enjoy gifted munchies, esp. those you've taken the time to prepare.

another well-liked gift are gift baskets (in this case, a small bag) that have things that people will use. Last year we gave my boss a bottle of garlic-flavored olive oil, a few packets of spices and other little cooking gadgets, which he really, really liked. My big sister was on a baking spree but never seemed to have the time to put together dough for the cookies she was sending out, so her gift was several different kinds of cookie dough with baking instructions written on the outside of the ziplock bag and a stainless steel cookie scoop.

the trick isn't to spend gobs and gobs of money, but to give something they could really use, even if it's something small.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how much my SO has gotten into it. I've never played it myself. The last time I was visiting him we were sitting in his bedroom on our own computers and he goes "There's some sheep in my house" and I thought "What the hell?" To took me a while to realize he was talking about the game.

I wonder why I like it so much. I think its just the silliest game ever, but its fun, hahah.

What all does she like?

She's into Digital Media, pictures all that stuff. She likes all those little cartoons we watched as kids. Like Billy and mandy is her favorite. I would assume anything orange she would love since she got excited when she found an orange pen to write me a letter with.

It's like little kid thingggs. She's still infatuated with all that stuff. I am too though, I get jealous when my little brother gets bubble to blow, and I get a dvd :p

She's pretty laid back, as am I when it comes to gifts. We don't really "want" anything.

I think i might have an idea though.

She tells me I don't have to get her anything, but I want to anyways.

I found some spare cash, and found something to get her too. So I'm pretty psyched. xP

he sent me a care package a few weeks ago with his university sweater, shirt, bunch of chocolates, a copy of "all about us" book that we're planning to fill out when he comes here, a love letter and pics from his childhood...i love them

then i sent back a care package, he has not received them yet, which contains an xbox webcam (the connection is steadier on xbox), a love letter, candies from japan that he has not tried yet and a digital photo frame with 200+ pictures of me LOL

he originally requested to make him a calendar (with my pictures XD) but since my friends were more than helpful to take awesome pictures of me, i just uploaded the pictures in one SD card hehe. i gave him a sneak peek and he loved the school girl outfit LOL
