anyone here struggle with ocd? any coping techniques?

Posted

My sister was just diagnosed with OCD and swears I have it also. I am not so convinced. I have little quirks and stuff...but anyways. There are a few things that DRIVE me BATTY and I CANNOT control how it makes me feel. SOOOO - I take Kava root to help me calm down when it causes me anxiety...I try to use breathing techniques...I try to do little things...I leave the room if I can if it's something someone else is doing (though that's not coping). Another thing she said was that you either adapt to it or you need medication to deal with it. I prefer to adapt. So. I will do the little things and prove to myself that I am not going to crack in two. For example, I left my pen Next to my keyboard instead of at the top. I walked away and eventually forgot about it. It was awesome. When I got back and saw it next to the keyboard I successfully fought off the urge to move it. I left it there. I found something to distract me. After a couple of hours I realized I was ok. It's small...but it's huge at the same time. I have been putting it in a different spot every day before I leave work since...Now I just need to escalate it to where I can have the words facing down. That's todays homework project. Do you have anything little like that you can start with? And my little quirks apply mostly to my work desk and my kitchen...that's why I say they are quirks...cause the rest of my house is willy nilly however it's put together is fine...

Constantly. There are many things you can do. But the first and most important is to seek medical help. OCD sucks and is virtually impossible to deal with by reading self help books and do it your self techniques.

My OCD is almost gone (under control), but I needed help and meds to get me through it
