ChicaMusica Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Now my friend brought up a valid point when it comes to many relationships. You can be in love with someone and you can love someone. Usually the media portrays them as two seperate things (I love you, but I'm not in love with you...youve all heard it before somewhere) But according to her, you could also be in love with someone and not truly love them. (The following is her opinion on the matter, your opinion on love may vary) When you're in love with someone, you love an aspect about them, their looks their personality etc... But love itself is much more powerful. You would do whatever for them and make sure that person is happy no matter what. Now many relationships where people are in love but do not love each other fall apart because they enjoy what the person does for them and how they make them feel. Once that feeling stops they break up. Love is possibly getting hurt if it means making the other person happy. For example, say you loved your ex but they found a new person. If you were only in love with them, you probably would hate any possibility of them getting together and might actively try to prevent it. If you were in love and loved them, though its painful you would help them along for him/her to be happy. My question, do you agree with this idea? Or do you disagree? Would you be able to put your feelings aside for the one who you have feelings for?
that girl Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I love my family, but I'm obviously not in love with them so of course you can love someone without being in love with them. As for being in love with someone and not really loving them, that is the sign of either a very unhealthy relationship or love from afar.
EricaH329 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 In my experience, when i've been in love with someone (which is only once), i've loved every aspect about them. Their mind, body, and soul. It was only until this particular person changed dramatically, that I was no longer in love with him. How could I when the things that made me fall in love with him are no longer there? But I do still love him. Just as I would my friends. There definitely is a difference between loving someone, and being in love with them.
