OMG! Just got my post this morning and I had to share this with you guys. :D

A week or so ago I was having a conversation on skype with my SO about my flight to NZ in December. It's a real killer of 30 hours in total and I have to change planes in Dubai and Sydney on the way. I hate flying and I haven't been well for a while, so this journey is quite a challenge for me.

On the journey home from my last visit I was in Dubai for a couple of hours and I had a really small amount of local currency. I decided to get myself a smoothie and a muffin but was just short of having enough for the muffin - damn, it looked great too .

So I was discussing maybe picking up a small amount of currency for this journey - just in case - although picking up 'small change' is expensive. My SO has now flown to England so often he has access to all the lounges and free food and doesn't need money in the airports but he mentioned he still had some currency he didn't need. I joked that it wasn't much good for my outward journey unless he wanted to meet me in Dubai (23 hour flight) to give me £20 cash ($32US) for a drink and a muffin .

So.......yes, if you're following me, you've guessed it :D.

A gorgeous card arrived this morning (two dogs carrying suitcases in their mouths) with the message 'Happy travels to you' and inside was £50 in UAE Dirham!!!

Jeez, I can't believe I found this man. :bunny:

I can question the wisdom of sending cash in the mail  but I can't question how much he loves me.

Man, he knows how to cheer me up!!!

Feeling so happy right now I just wanted to share. :bunny:

Bon voyage! 30 hour flights are the pits, but I'm sure it'll all be worth it :)

Oh how sweet!!

I know!

Not sure how he'll feel about being called 'sweet' but, yes, it definitely is.

I can't wait to talk to him tonight to thank him and let him know how much that little gesture means to me. :bunny:

I am really NOT looking forward to the flight Elswyth but I can't wait to try those muffins! :D

The last (and only) time I took a 10-hour flight to NZ I was nearly bonkers by the end of it due to being cramped up for so long, even though SIA has lots of in-flight entertainment so I wasn't bored. I'm never taking the window seat again; aisle all the way baby!

(Did the muffins look THAT nice??? :D)

Well I've done it twice so far (there and back) but I got great advice from my SO on how to fly long distance. I got up every chance I could and did exercises at the back of the plane. I even did step-ups at the bottom of the first class stairs. I think most of the passengers thought I was nuts.

My SO told me he does one-armed press ups to keep the blood flowing and to impress the air hostesses. He's not really a poser but I wouldn't put it past him if he's bored.

We both prefer the window seat and he taught me to take full size pillows for the journey - it makes such a difference being able to snuggle up and lean against the window. I've never slept on planes as an adult but I can't manage 30 hours without some shut-eye and the pillow really helps.

The muffins looked great - although I suspect it had less to do with the muffins themselves and more to do with the boring food on the 23 hour journey from NZ (airline vegetarian meals aren't overly inspiring but at least you get them before everybody else ).

I may not even have time to get a snack on the way through Dubai but at least I now have money just in case. :)

"Smoothie and one of your delicious muffins, please!"

"Oh I'm sorry ma'am, we don't do those muffins any more.... care to try one of our lite-bite cheese and tomato crispy wafers? only 6 calories, and gone ion a second!"

No I damn well wouldn't! I flew all the way out here especially for one of your muffins! Hell, my BF even mailed me the cash to get one!

Right, that's it - the visit's ruined now....I'm going home!"

LittleTiger storms off, angrily knocking a kid's popcorn skywards, and kicking his buggy before leaving in a super-dooper Prima Donna huff, but pausing to ram the airline standard-issue-uniform hat down over the eyes of the hostess who simpers, "Your BF sure does push-ups gooood!"

I'm coming with you - this I gotta see!!!

:laugh::laugh::laugh: Love it!!!

Somehow, I don't think I'll be giving up five wonderful weeks with my awesome kiwi man because of a missing chocolate muffin though (as angry as I would obviously be!!!) - especially once I've knocked 3000 miles off the distance between us, with only another 9000 to go!!! (Whoever said LDRers were insane???)

However TM, if you're free in early December for a trip to Dubai and you have nothing better to do, some company on the flight would be great - something tells me we'd get along rather well :D.

I can even afford to buy you a muffin for your trouble!!!

I'm absolutely certain we would - but somehow, I can't see your BF being exactly overjoyed that you've brought a talkative, gregarious 53-year old, short Italian grandma along as gooseberry....!!:D

 Well the invitation only goes as far as a muffin in Dubai so you wouldn't get a chance to play the gooseberry, and I can assure you that your age, height, nationality and grandma status would be completely irrelevant to him .....besides, we're both 45, so we're not exactly spring chickens ourselves! :D

I love hearing when a woman genuinely appreciates a man's good gestures. It lets us know that all men don't have to be scum if we want love in our lives.

Woggle, the best women deserve the best men and vice versa. :)

If any man wants love in his life, the best way to get it is to give love.

I know you'll read many posts to the contrary on LS, but I still believe it's the truth.

Most women appreciate good gestures, as I'm sure most men appreciate them from a woman.

I'll never understand why some woman prefer a 'bad' boy, then expect sympathy when they end up getting hurt

I love kind, thoughtful men.

Aww, that's an example of a partner who cares.

My boyfriend did something similar for me today. I was freaking out because I kinda spent all my money on dinner for us and a present for my boyfriend, so I didn't have enough Canadian dollars to pay for my luggage to be checked (stupid airport didn't have change to take American dollars). So my boyfriend got me a "little money" to pay it and when I got to the airport I realized he'd given me $80 instead of just $25 so I could get myself some food and my family some souvenirs if I wanted. :D Argh, I miss him...

I thought you were Tigressa for a moment and that you had reconected with your ex (she broke up with him recently)

I love it when he does things like you guys are talking about, I've never been so spoiled. After my first visit he slipped a card into my suitcase that was so romantic and sweet and made me cry a lot but was so him. The flowers, the cute koala he gave me that I love, so many things he does that are unexpected and sweet.

That man puts a bigger smile on my face every day than anyone else ever has.

Awww......don't you just love 'em?

When we have wonderful men like this, it's no surprise we're prepared to put up with all the downsides of being in a LDR.

Men like ours are worth their weight in gold!

I keep meaning to respond to this thread and life keeps distracting me. :bunny: I think this is an awesome thread! I love hearing someone in an LDR going out of their way to show they love their partner, because it has so much extra meaning.

The most awesome thing I can think of that my boyfriend did: On the last day of my visit in Michigan over the summer my SO had to go to a meeting. Before he left I kissed him and said: "Now hurry back home so we can enjoy the last bit of our time together."

He left and I promptly jumped back in bed, ate chocolates, and watched episodes of Teen Mom on the computer.

He, on the other hand, went to his meeting, cut out asap, and RAN all the way across campus back to his apartment. I heard him bursting into the door and when I went downstairs to greet him he was out of breath and covered in sweat.

I was surprised and said "What the heck happened to you?!"

His response: "You told me to hurry."

I fell even more in love with him that day.
