OK I'm old enough to remember life without the internet, cellphones, texting...heck even before most people had answering machines!

This instant communication thing changed the whole ballgame.

Let's face it...when you text someone and they don't respond fairly quickly you have to assume that they saw it and are ignoring it..for now. Nobody is away from thier phone for more than a couple hours at a time unless on vacation or something. Same goes for the cell calls and messages. So now everyone is constantly wondering why didn't he/she get back to me? How long should I wait before calling back?

Texting is especially difficult because one little mistype and a smile :) becomes a frown :( and the whole message gets messed up. You don't get any body language and visual cues so meaning is misconstrued. Same with e-mails.

This is why long e-mail conversdations are a waste of time in online dating. Untikl you see, smell and actually touch someone you have no idea if there is chemistry or not. If you want to really communicate speak on the phone or see each other.

There's a similar thread discussing this already. I agree with your other points, and I completely disagree with the quote above.
