As a teenager, I often viewed pornography as a source of entertainment, a visual birds-and-the-bees talk, and a self-help guide (the sexual equivalent of Martha Stewart Home). I am currently engaged, and my partner and I often turn on porn during foreplay, or use it to reenact our fantasies (think: threesomes without the drama). Are there any other women who view porn in a positive light?

I grew up watching my brothers porn videos which he hid under the coffee table, they were just normal passionate straight sex and so that's what I love watching now, nothing kinky! I like watching older men with younger girls usually. Some things I watch are what I like doing with my partner, and some things we don't do. Some things I like doing with my partner which I don't like watching.. Porn never replaces my boyfriend, I just like watching people have sex, it's so hot. It's all good! Sex to me is a separate world to every day life.. so when people think porn is degrading.. I like seeing a man dominate a woman in porn, but in real life not so much.

The first time I saw it I found a video in my parents closet. I saw a girl get a facial and I literally vomited. I didn't get it at all. Then came HBO and the late nights finding the "code" on the remote after my parents caught me watching soft stuff. I have learned a few tricks from it but mainly I put myself and my bf in the movie. Whatever people like is fine w/ me. Sometimes I do think that other women are missing out but if it makes them uncomfortable then they're smart to stay away from it. As long as people do what feels good and doesn't hurt anyone it's all good.

Waynebrady, I cannot speak for most women, but porn was my first experience with sex, so to speak. I was very sheltered and naive growing up. The source of entertainment transformed into an instructional video and I love the cheesy story lines. You are right, many aspects of porn are degrading to women and portray us in a negative light. But if you take the time to search, there are similar movies of men in submissive/powerless roles. I believe it is an acquired taste.

Do you use it strictly in the visual/auditory sense or does it provide fodder for your imagination to chew on, building upon fantasies/desires already existing? Do you 'complete' the picture in your mind's eye or is it purely on-the-screen turn-on? I've only met a few women who admit to liking porn, so am curious. My style is more in the Candida Royalle (produced) genre of porn, which might date me a bit. Couples-oriented....

We have watched it a couple of times together. I like the girl on girl but he doesn’t know that. I dont know why I like it. I just like the audio mostly. Some like porn some don’t. Why be the one to judge either way? Just like some like coffee and some don’t. Just how life is.

But interestingly (to me, anyway), when studied by researchers, women nearly universally show physical signs of arousal in response to porn--even women who don't like it. More arousal, in fact, than in response to their preferred "romantic" material. This PBS article discusses this finding and other considerations regarding gender and pornography. I enjoy porn. There is a ton of stuff our there that turns my stomach, but watching two humans, any gender, enjoying (or appearing to enjoy) sex together is a huge turn on for me. I sometimes watch with my partner, and sometimes alone. When I watch, I imagine my partner and I engaging in the same acts. Sometimes I watch acts that I fantasize about, but don't actually want to do in reality--and it satisfies the fantasy nicely.
