I heard that Don Ho's account was put on Moderator restriction simply because he posted a link to Amazon recommending a book about Obsessive Love to a member that was suffering. It was called "soliciting" by the Moderator.

LS has since put him on Moderator review, which means that every answer to your posts have to be reviewed and it takes up to 48 hours! Also, he cannot PM or change/access his personal details. He has emailed LS staff several times requesting the restriction be lifted, with no response.

Do you miss Don Ho's quick replies to your threads or want access to his links on his profile or need to PM him? Contact LS and ask them to restore him!

That sucks, he was pretty sharp.

He is pretty sharp, often when recommending books, I just give the title/author.

I have been flagged for putting up a website outside of LS. How long does moderation last?

You really expect moderators to use some common sense in instances like this...

Goes to show they aren't properly aware of what's happening in the forums. Shame.

I really think this is silly and short sighted as he was such a great contributor to the community.

You also expect members to read the guidelines. You make an exception for one member, you make an exception for all members. It doesn't work that way. It needs to be black and white.

I don't wish to get in an argument, but Taliban style application of the rules wasnt the most sensible option here. A simple warning and removal of the post would have suffice.

Apparently Don Ho put in a post that he suggested the member go to Amazon and check out a particular book WITH the link to Amazon. The Moderator did delete the part of the post that had the link, plus put Don's account on "review", a 20 point penalty and restricted access.

The Mod quoted LS rules stating it was "soliciting". I can understand if someone wrote a book and then put a link to it and the writer was getting $, but a simple suggestion with a link to help a member and a member gets put on restricted status? It does not say anywhere in the LS T.O.U. that you cannot provide a link as long as you are not "soliciting".

Anyway, not sure how long "restriction" lasts or if it is ever lifted. Anyone know how to contact Tony, apparently he is the LS chief.

what do you mean, apparently? where is this Loveshack grapevine?

From the guidelines, which apparently no one has even read:

External links must be non-commercial, provide empirical data relevant to the thread of discussion, be sponsored by an accredited educational institution, or link to a peer-reviewed publication. Commercial sites are those which stand to benefit financially either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from our site, including those designed to acquire user connection-specific data.

I think Amazon would qualify to benefit financially.

Participants who have had their access to the community forums revoked are expected to contact the site administration via the Contact Us form. With very few exceptions, to ensure your privacy, we do not contact participants before revoking access to the site. It is the responsibility of the individual affected to get in touch with us for further information and to have the access restored if possible.

Participants which have had their access to the site revoked are expected to cease use of the site until access is restored. Persons who attempt to circumvent revocation shall be permanently banned from the site.

Can he just make another account under a different email address?

Common sense would lead me to think if he had not done it before then a warning would suffice. Being that he has been here and the moderator must've come across his simple to the piont relationship advice posts then he would be familar with someone who is normally posting an average of 8 times daily. I've been a mod of a gaming forum and even I have used common sense. Regardless there is a advertisement above the window I am typing in. I am guessing thats soliciting too.....pot meet kettle?

Yeah it's a bit of overkill to restrict him, but WTRanger is right in that you can't make exceptions. That being said, I like to think we'd all be warned first before having our access restricted. I think when all is said and done they'll let him back. It's fairly obvious that he's not spamming the message boards and he's a smart guy so it's not like he'll do it again.

Don't worry, don Ho will be back soon. You outta see my rap sheet if you want to talk infractions on here.

I can just imagine Don is timeout....he's probably watching Gilligan Island reruns.... LOL!

p.s. I'm sure there is more to the infraction than posting an Amazon link since he is a senior poster....nonetheless Don knows how to beg forgiveness and rejoin us all soon!

Dons a cool guy, I miss his no nonsense replies.

So this explains where Don has been. Personally, I think themoderators are out of line on this one. They could have just warned him, which is enough. The mods also appear to be oblivious to a lot of what is going on. They let people run rampant in the dating section flinging insults at one another and forposting in the wrong forum, yet a simple book recommedation gets you restricted access. I would just love to hear from them their views and justifications for all the crap that goes on.

Well I was shocked when they hammered me for my formatting! I've worked in offices for 41 years and there are all styles of formatting that are acceptable in business, block, etc. You don't always have to use blank lines in between to show a new paragraph. I've probably had more experience writing letters than they've been alive! But you can't buck things, just conform...

I've logged in thousands of posts in other forums so I'm hardly a newbie.

Personally I felt Donho's advice very helpful and I hope they take him off restriction soon. Can't they just warn people? I feel like it's the rest of us getting the punishment because we're without his helpful comments.

Guys,

Calm down....

Post a question to the moderator rather than prolong anymore speculation.
