Ex and I have been broken up for almost 2 months (he dumped me).

We never talk. I have not really seen him since, only a couple times at the beginning since it was a drawn out break up. Out of the blue today he calls me and texts me to invite me to a social event as a...'friend'?

What does this even mean? I told him I could not go, because it was not a good idea but why is he doing this? What could he possibly be wanting to accomplish? Did he just expect me to get weak at the knees when he called?!? Or was he trying to extend an olive branch in his own way...?

I've been there on both sides. He is most likely struggling with his own life right now. He contacts you hoping you'll still come running whenever he calls. Don't go and I wouldn't have even responded. He is insecure and hoping you will make him feel better.

I mean I only replied cause I felt it was right but it just confuses me cause while what you are saying is true, he also seems to be having a great life right now - new friends, doing well in school etc.

I.just.dont.understand.him.

Don't go there. And don't try to second guess it. If they want you back they should say so. That 'friends' rubbish is them hedging bets. Don't let them away with it.

so i guess I am just reading too much into this?

I mean I don't think he wants to get back together or anything, I was just curious what his motives were

Yes, you are reading too much into it. You retained your dignity by responding cordially. Leave it at that. Nobody knows what he is thinking, but I personally feel its quite disrespectful for him to be so casual in an SMS. Is calling too hard? Would that have hurt his voicebox or something? hah.

If you're happier within him interfering in your life, keep on forging ahead.
