User No 9 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I just had an interview, and when I really think about it, I don't remember "seeing" the guy while I speak. So.. I must of been looking down, or away, while talking. But when he speaks, I look at him. But I walk away feeling it went "good". Anyone care to make sense of this?
carhill Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 OP, try this..... look into the mirror at home and talk about yourself. Look right at your face in the mirror. Imagine you're giving a speech. It's not uncommon to look away while gathering thoughts and putting them together into cogent speech. If you find yourself doing that, try not to look down, but rather to the side or focus on an object behind your listener/interviewer. My instinct is, with practice, your eye contact will improve and become subconscious. In the meantime, try it with a friend and get some feedback. Positive reinforcement can boost your confidence. Good luck
Sirhiro Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Thank you for such great advice carhill. My SO has trouble keeping eye contact when speaking to anyone. I will give her these tips and suggestions and see if she will try them out long term for some positive results; hopefully.
Author User No 9 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Thanks yeah that's good advice, I know the look behind em trick but I just 'forget'. I'll try that next time.
