Never had to deal with that really, my bf would work a 3rd shift and now he's going to language school from 9am-5pm. Knowing the army, sometimes they don't let them out right on time...I never had to deal with that, so I'm still contemplating on visiting...but then again it's something I'm going to have to deal with anyways when I visit from now on.

I just remember whenever he would visit me and I'd work and go to school I'd be so anxious to see him. It sucks

you've got the advantage of planning ahead. Find things to do to pass time, esp. if you're in a place you've never been before. When I visit friends back home, I tell them not to worry about me, that I can just poke around town, checking out different places or even catching up with other folks while they're working. Or, if you don't feel like going out, hang out at the pool or gym (apartment complex); offer to run their errands; bring along a good book or go through their movie collection; or, if you know they're pressed for time, help tidy their house. This last one I do for girlfriends with families who work fulltime. You'd be amazed how much they appreciate that one simple kindness!

I know it's hard – and disappointing – to have to wait when you thought you were going to be able to hang out with that person, but being adaptable is a good characteristic to possess.

I know exactly what you mean!! To me, it feels like such a waste of time to know my bf is in the same town and yet we're not together haha.

But I make the most of it and explore his town which is a pretty interesting place although its very simple and not a tourist scene at all.

I go to the mall and window shop (he he I also REAL shop :) ) and I also schedule things that I might normally do on my downtime at home like get a hair cut/ dye, manicure, pedicure, oil change.. stuff like that. Not all on the same visit of course but its stuff that needs to be done anyhow might as well do it when I have time on my hands.

I slept. When he was at work was the hours I usually sleep anyway.

Go and tour the place! I've been 5 months at the bf's place and I still haven't seen everything that I want to see. :D

I borrowed his sister's car and took myself to the gym or went swimming. Did the food shopping, took the dog for a walk, did some work on my laptop, chatted to friends online and even read a book I'd been intending to read for years.

I did a lot of what I normally do at home - but worked a lot less .

My SO and I usually try to blow off work during our visits as much as possible. I don't recommend doing that all the time of course. I'm surprised we're both still employed. :lmao:
