somedude81 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 At 5'1, 174 and according to your picture I would classify you as a BBW. The problem is that there is no upper cap for being a BBW. Both a person weighing 170 and somebody weighing 300 can be called 'BBW.' Since dating websites don't have an obese category that the really big women go into, they go into BBW. The women that should be into BBW get pushed into 'a few extra.' So for the purposes of a dating site, 'a few extra' is fine because listing onself as BBW gives men the impression that the woman is huge.
SilentVoice Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I had a thread similar thread to yours a couple of months ago. But I didnt post a pic. I am about 180 now -- and about 5'8. I list myself as full-figured( I use okc). Even though I am smaller than most "average"s listed on the site. Anyway good luck on what you choose to put and congratulations .
Phateless Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I've lost weight since I originally made my POF profile, and I'd set it as BBW at that time just to err on the side of caution. When a friend of mine from work ran into my profile (hah! too bad we work together), he said he didn't understand why I classified myself as BBW, but also said that the pictures up there currently didn't look much like me anymore. Since I've heard varying opinions about definition of BBW, I wanted to see what you guys thought. I cut out my head even though this is certainly not a shot that would go up on POF itself -- I had a friend take it for this very purpose. She got several other, better, pictures of me, but this was the only body shot. http://www.houseannwn.com/bbwornot.jpg By the way... this post isn't meant to start Size Wars XXIV. Please don't let it turn into such. Thank you very much! Brutally honest - a few extra. If you put in a little cardio and NUTRITIONAL (NOT DIET, THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!!!) work you could go a long way.
Star Gazer Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 My suggestion is to just not put anything about BBW or Few extra pounds. Well, she's not quite average. So your suggestion is that she either lie or avoid OLD altogether. How is that helpful?
Phateless Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 My suggestion is to just not put anything about BBW or Few extra pounds. The entire point of online dating is to find someone who likes you for you. Inaccurate or missing information wastes EVERYONE'S time. If a girl was not to my tastes I wouldn't schedule a date with her. If I felt misled when I saw what she looks like I would be irritated and consider my time wasted. If I'm not interested, then she's wasted her own time too. If OP is unsure she can put AVERAGE and make sure she has a full-body pic on the site. Problem solved.
Knittress Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Great work on the diet! I just wanted to chime in that even if you're a bit larger, you've got a great natural figure.
Star Gazer Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 If OP is unsure she can put AVERAGE and make sure she has a full-body pic on the site. Problem solved. I don't think she's average. I'm average. Even with a picture I wouldn't put down something that's inaccurate.
Knittress Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I don't think she's average. I'm average. Even with a picture I wouldn't put down something that's inaccurate. Erm, aren't you into crossfit and stuff? That isn't average. That's "athletic" or "fit" or what-have-you.
Phateless Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I don't think she's average. I'm average. Even with a picture I wouldn't put down something that's inaccurate. Women are so royally F-d up about their body type that I pretty much disregard what they list in their category and look at the pictures.
Green Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Women are so royally F-d up about their body type that I pretty much disregard what they list in their category and look at the pictures. seriosly a few good full body pics from different angles is way better then some body rating box.
Jannah Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Women are so royally F-d up about their body type that I pretty much disregard what they list in their category and look at the pictures. Hey now. I think you forgot to include, the numerous threads created by men with regard to height, body frame, etc...
Star Gazer Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Erm, aren't you into crossfit and stuff? That isn't average. That's "athletic" or "fit" or what-have-you. I consider athletic/fit to be where I WANT to be, but it's not where I am right now, at least in terms of aesthetics. You can be internally athletic and fit but not quite be there on the outside.
Phateless Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Hey now. I think you forgot to include, the numerous threads created by men with regard to height, body frame, etc... Lots of men have body issues too, I still consider myself one of them. I *KNOW* consciously that I'm attractive and decently-sized, but I still feel scrawny and meek sometimes. Bah!

Phateless Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 So then we can all agree that it is both genders. Sweet! Yes. In my experience though, this plagues women more frequently. What was really interesting was walking into A&F and seeing all those naked supermen staring down at me and suddenly realizing that I felt insecure. I guess that's how women feel all the time? Not cool.
OceanGirl Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I list my body type as average. I would love to lose 10-20lbs so I am really "extra few". But by having a browse on OKC I saw that many women that list themselves as average are bigger than me. So if I listed myself as extra few, guys would probably think that I am huge.

Judging by your profile pic I'd say average is accurate. Looks like you've got a little bit of curviness... I like it.
EmmaLou Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I agree with whoever said put average and include body pics... you'll come up in more searches and then the guys can have a look at your pics To me, you look average.. Surely average means what most women look like at the moment around us, and I think you look like the normal size. There needs to be a few new definitions, like slim but curvy etc, or just slim.. as I think slim people are putting 'average'.

Author Lorelai Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 If OP is unsure she can put AVERAGE and make sure she has a full-body pic on the site. Problem solved. Ehh... no. I do plan to put up a full-body pic that people can use to judge before they message me, but while the average American woman is overweight, I would not feel comfortable at all with saying "average". It looks like on POF there is an option for "rather not say", but I'd imagine that someone who saw that would probably think that pretty much meant overweight as well. If you put in a little cardio and NUTRITIONAL (NOT DIET, THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!!!) work you could go a long way. I'm extremely fond of the seated elliptical trainer at my gym. I dislocated my kneecap a few years ago and it's still not right. I can keep my heart rate at 75% for more than 45 minutes on it, but my knee starts yelling at me after 20 minutes on the standard ones. I figure longer times at cardio heart rates are likely better than short.

Putting "rather not say" or "BBW" or "a few extra pounds" is just unattractive. Also because you have a hurt knew realize that you have to figure out a special work out for you. it doesn't have to be intense. A fast paced walk for 45 minutes would be great if your knee could handle it. And actualy certain exercises can help strenghten your knee. Proper nutrition like drinking water all the time instead of juices and sodas will help alot. Staying away from processed foods like tv dinners, white breads ect. willl help. The more fresh fruits, vegatables, and nuts you use to fill you up during the day the better. If you have salad or yogurt make sure there are no chemicals like high fructose corn syrup. Also don't think of yourself as less because you weigh more then you want to. Life isn't about the destination its about the journey. You are every bit as deserving of respect and love at your current weight.

That's fine, you don't need to put anything, as long as you have a pic there. Realistically that label only affects searches, which is why I think you should put average. Let him decide based on your pic, not on the words of a category. It looks like on POF there is an option for "rather not say", but I'd imagine that someone who saw that would probably think that pretty much meant overweight as well. Yup, pretty much right. Seriously check out swing dancing too. It's huge cardio and lots of fun! Plus there are a lot of sweet guys there. You are every bit as deserving of respect and love at your current weight. This is good advice, I'd just like to add one thing. There is a BIG difference between health-conscious and health-aware. Let me explain. You can go to quiznos and order a turkey sandwich on "wheat bread," BUT, the ingredients are all low-quality and loaded with synthetic garbage. Honestly, that sandwich will be bad for you even though you think you've made a healthy choice. Actual healthy? Small organic deli. It's all about quality of ingredients and lack of synthetic additives. Start shopping at trader joe's and whole foods and stay away from safeway. Pay less attention to the percentages and more attention to the ingredients. If a product has lots of ingredients that you don't recognize or can't pronounce, don't eat it. If you look at the bread you buy at a store like trader joe's, there typically only 4 ingredients. At safeway that loaf of bread will have 30 ingredients. Do you know WTF all that stuff is? I sure don't... Think about it...

You're not morbidly obese from what I can tell in the picture.
