DollWelch Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 A man said this to me and I just want to know what he meant by it. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes." Thoughts?
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 It means he likes the way you look - thinks your pretty, easy on the eye etc
callingyouuu Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Yeah, it just means he finds you attractive. His eyes are "sore" from looking at other less appealing things, and looking at you makes them feel better.
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 It means he wants to have sex with you. No, it doesn't mean that at all. It's a common expression - at least in the UK - and it definitely just means he thinks you're pretty or good looking. He might indeed want to have sex with you but that's not what this expression means. Sometimes it's also used when a person is relieved to see someone or something. Like the Chile miners might have said that to the first rescuer who appeared in the mine to help them get out.

Men tell women they think they are physically attractive when they want to have sex with them. That's what happened here.
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Men tell women they think they are physically attractive when they want to have sex with them. That's what happened here. Yes, men do tell women they think they're attractive when they want to have sex with them. Sometimes they also tell them they're attractive when they don't want to have sex with them. We actually have no information to go on about exactly what he meant. The OP asked what does this statement mean and I have given her the common uses. 'You're a sight for sore eyes' does not directly translate to 'I want to have sex with you'. It means - 'I like what I see' or 'I'm pleased to see you'. It could be said by anybody of either sex to anybody of either sex, father to daughter and vice versa, mother to son and vice versa, friend to friend and, as I said before as an expression of relief to see somebody you don't even know. The most likely interpretation given the limited information we have is that the man thought the OP was very pretty/attractive. I personally wouldn't translate it to mean anything more.
Tim The Enchanter Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Yes, men do tell women they think they're attractive when they want to have sex with them. Sometimes they also tell them they're attractive when they don't want to have sex with them. We actually have no information to go on about exactly what he meant. You have a lot to learn about men.
Mellisa Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 He's a slick talker, be careful...I peronally dont really like those flashy flatteries
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 You have a lot to learn about men. Of course, because all men are different so we all have a lot to learn, including you. I'm a middle aged woman, I have a lot of experience with men and I've come across all sorts. Some guys will compliment a woman with no intention of trying to get into her knickers - that's a fact.

My knowledge of being a man my entire life > your knowledge of men.
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 My knowledge of being a man my entire life > your knowledge of men. Your knowledge of you may be greater than my knowledge of men in general. However your knowledge of men in general may not be as great as mine. You are one individual man and all men are different. To say that you know how all men think about every subject is a little arrogant. I'm a woman but I don't pretend to know what every woman is thinking. I know a lot about what many women want, there are common themes and universal traits, but I don't know everything about every woman. There are also common themes and universal traits in men. I don't disagree with you there, but I stand by what I said. I'm only arguing on one specific point here. A man can compliment a woman without any intention of trying to sleep with her - I know that to be true. Without knowing the exact circumstances that this 'compliment' was made to the OP, we can't know the man's exact intention. In fact, we wouldn't know anyway unless we asked him outright.
EasyHeart Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Wow, this thread degenerated pretty fast. "You're a sight for sore eyes" is a very common saying, and as Little Tiger said, it simply means something like "I'm happy to see you" or "It's nice to see you." It is not at all sexual. It's something you might say to your mom or your child or your sister, as well as a friend or an acquaintance. It doesn't deserve any more psychoanalysis than "I'm glad to see you." Of course, some of the people in this Forum could spend 30 pages analyzing "I'm glad to see you" . . . .
EasyHeart Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Lol, very funny conversation. But as a guy, I just think that its my responsibility to educate the ladies folk that yes it is true that 99% of the times men want to have sex with women they find attractive. Its just instinctive. Doesnt necessarily mean they will proactively seek sex from those women, but they would be willing to have sex with them if given the opportunity. That's true. But it's also true that every man is not attracted to every woman he sees. And sometimes men have conversations with women they are not attracted to, and we have to say something! "You're a sight for sore eyes" is not a phrase that indicates physical attraction. Maybe some people are confusing it with "You're easy on the eyes", which means "I think you're attractive"?
utterer of lies Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Without knowing the exact circumstances that this 'compliment' was made to the OP, we can't know the man's exact intention. In fact, we wouldn't know anyway unless we asked him outright. See, that's wrong. If you asked him outright, he would probably agree with you. But that doesn't mean he doesn't want to have sex with her. Because he does. Because she's a sight for sore eyes.

No argument there.......but if a man is in a monogamous relationship (and wants to keep it that way) even given the opportunity to have sex with every attractive woman he sees, he still wouldn't. I know most of you male humans are just animals at heart but some of you do still have morals and value other things besides sex.
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Maybe some people are confusing it with "You're easy on the eyes", which means "I think you're attractive"? As I said before, this isn't the most common usage of the phrase, but I think in some circumstances it does mean that and it wouldn't surprise me if it was the case in this instance.......and even it was it still doesn't necessarily mean he wanted to have sex with her.. Anyway, we don't know because we weren't there were we? Well I wasn't anyway - don't know about the rest of you.
LittleTiger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 See, that's wrong. If you asked him outright, he would probably agree with you. But that doesn't mean he doesn't want to have sex with her. Because he does. Because she's a sight for sore eyes. So now you're saying even the guy himself doesn't know his own mind......and you don't even know him. Priceless!!! Or maybe you do know him???

Or maybe you do know him??? Reading comprehension fail. What I tried to tell you is that just because he wants to **** her doesn't mean he would admit this to another woman. At least unless he's not a complete idiot
dispatch3d Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I mean, he was talking to you and said something about you, you are a girl, so yeah he definitely wants to have sex with you.

At least unless he's not a complete idiot Err, never mind reading comprehension fail, I think I'm having a system malfunction??? Why would he not admit it to another woman? How would that make him a complete idiot? Makes no difference to me if he wants to **** her or not.
