I can't say my program gears us towards or accepts minimum competency. lol

I think if she's made it to 40 and thinks men "find her degree intimidating" there is probably something about her other than the degree that makes her intimidating. I know a lot of professors in her position, 40, never married, no kids, travel the world, etc.

It usually comes along with a "I am better than you" attitude and some nonsensical feminist BS. (This coming from a feminist mind you). I find most of them very off-putting and slightly deranged. My guess would be she's one of those academics who like to ram their opinion down everyone's throat at every given opportunity and ends up being critical.

This is all sort of negative Nancy on my part, but it's just what I've see at my Uni.

Still though, ask her out, she should at least have good travel stories.

What I mean by minimal competency is that if one does the requisite work required in the degree program, they will earn their degree. The American education system rewards finishing, but not necessarily excelling. Therefore, it doesn't take any special skill, talent, or ability to finish a particular degree program. Of course some will require more work, discipline, assistance, or dedication than others to complete a program; but in the end, you get the piece of paper for "sticking around" long enough...

What? You make it sound like it doesn't mean anything! I agree that education doesn't necessarily equal superior intelligence or talent, but it's not nothing!

It's not nothing...but I don't agree with those that who claim superiority merely because they hold an advanced degree...that is all...
