What I mean by this is that "hitting it off well" to him might have meant "Gee. This girl is neato. She could be a good friend. She was fun to talk to. I wonder if I'll hang out with her again." So perhaps he finds you good friendshp material, and you may be flattering yourself while he simply sees you as a buddy. Both possibilities seem equal to me.
