What are some signs of a emotionally unavailable person? This could be a man or woman. What if those signs are not present in the beginning of a relationship? But develop later on. What would make it later on develop? I'm sure too, there are people who are like this from the beginning but others fail to see it or do not want to.

Thoughts?

I'd say there are probably two types of emotionally unavailable - people who are just naturally introverted or closed off and others who are emotionally disconnected from the relationship.

I'd say if they didn't show signs of this behavior in the beginning then they are probably just now emotionally disconnected from the relationship, or they just entered the comfort stage of the relationship and it's being interpreted incorrectly. Most obvious sign being that they don't share their feelings with you and are distant.

Having specific details on the situation or person would help determine where I'd classify them, but from a broad scope that's usually where I find people fall.

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense. I guess I was meaning more so like you stated, the ones who are emotionally disconnected from a realtionship. Perhaps they really never knew how to be connected? Just wondering what some signs were, not being able to open up and share their feelings like you said would deffo be one.

I would say many clues to unavailability are present right at the beginning, but may take time to discover. Here's a little list of things that I encounter most commonly:

-Unresolved prior romance (eg. separated & not divorced)

-Addictions to substances or behaviors (like gambling)

-Chaos in life (unpaid bills, family strife, etc)

-Lack of interest in having an LTR

Those are the biggies I've found. And each of them is an immediate deal breaker.

Are you looking to try and assist with this in the relationship, if you're in one currently?
