So I'm considering adding this to my OKCupid profile (spinoff to the cliches thread)

I think I'm going to get some negative replies, but it's all in good jest.

The top five cliches you'll find on a dating profile (that you will not see on this one):

(Honorable Mention) "I don't know what to put here" - ::facepalm::

5) "I'm not looking for a hook-up"/"I am looking for a long term relationship"/"Don't want to get laid"

4) "I don't like creeps"/"Stop winking me"/"No icebreakers" - Don't worry, I do not like it either. I'm a very up front person that will let you know how I feel and when. I think this is key for any conversation and any relationship.

3) "I don't like pictures with men showing their abs/wearing no shirt" - There was a study done on this web site in which women will most likely talk to a guy that has pictures on their profile in which they are shirtless than men who don't. (For the record, I'm 6'2, 185lbs. I eat well and I do basic cardio when time permits)

2) "Where are all the real/good men?" - They're out there, people just don't look in places where they exist.

And the number one answer goes to, Max, DRUMROLL.....

::drumroll::

::rimshot::

1) "I'm a country girl/guy (at heart)" - The ones who say this are the ones who lived in the city their entire lives and only wishes they can live on a farm.

So I decided to not put this in the profile, instead to expand on it and add it as a blog entry.

So I decided to not put this in the profile...

Good idea...that post seems to imply a bitterness stemming from lack of success in the online dating world...although you intend for it to be humorous and light-hearted, I am pretty sure it won't be interpreted that way by the majority of women passing through...

In other words, if I saw a girl with a similar post in her profile targeting men's profiles, it'd be a pretty quick skip...

I hope the blog isn't on the dating site? Please don't post that stuff.

That was my fear all along. I do have a great deal of bitterness towards dating as a whole but I'd rather not let it out on just that, a dating site.

I have my own web site and Facebook, I had planned on posting it on those (if you want links, PM me, I won't pub it here and risk getting reprehended by admins).

Do women you date or would be interested in dating ever frequent either site? If so, I repeat: please don't post this.

No. I'm not dating anyone at the moment and no one I have as Facebook "friends" I intend on dating.

I used to find silliness in a profile offbeat and intriguing. Now it just annoys me. Hm. Wonder why.

I like your brain though - maybe it just seems... puppyish?

Have you been to my profile as of late? It really hasn't changed that much over time.

Nope. I was referring to me and my taste in profiles changing over time. Something about the wry, witty overanalysis is tiring to me now, but five years ago I probably would've jumped you (in a happy way). You're in your early 20s, right? Maybe you're reaching your target audience just fine. :)

23 to be exact. I will admit to being quite the analytical guy who thinks a lot (and then puts it to pen and paper). I really don't care about reaching a target audience as long as it's heard and dissected.

Keep anything negative out of your profile! It's one thing to be bitter, it's quite another to announce it to potential dating partners.

You'd be suprised how many women on dating sites that put this kind of stuff in their profile

A lot of womens profiles these days are a serious list of terrorist demands and serious attitude problem just oozes from their profile.

Feels like she's yelling at her audience.

Well, she would certainly not get any audience from me for her bitching and moaning...but honestly, she wouldn't care...she'll still have plenty of doucheticles to fawn over her... :rolleyes:

I'm 22, I thought it was funny-- haha. Oh, well. Different strokes, I guess!

As a woman, I'd be completely turned off if this was in your profile. It reeks of bitterness and negativity. If somebody can't keep the bitterness at bay when they're trying to sell themselves, I can't even imagine how awful they'd be in real life.

Maybe if I get rid of the commentary it's quite possible that it would come off as being funny rather than bitter.

Thoughts?

All this list will do is limit the dating pool for you. You are giving a giant middle finger to anyone with those 5 things in their profile.

Right! What I was saying! It might work just fine for a certain type of chick in your age group.
