mortensorchid Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Something very unexpected happened last night. Something out of left field, please let me explain ... Many months ago I reconnected with a guy I had known for a long time. We'd see each other occasionally here and there. Last summer we reconnected at a concert. He invited me to a BBQ at his house, which I came to and brought a friend to. I was excited to meet him, as I live in the suburbs and most of my friends live in the city, and this would mean he is the closest friend and I don't have to drive 20 minutes to see him if I wanted to. Since we are so close together, we decided to get together every few weeks and have dinner. I had posted on this before, as we went to a sushi restaurant and I was rather surprised to see that he picked up the check. (As this was a friendly get together between two friends, I assumed that we would have separate checks.) I wondered if he was interested then. Others on this board posted that he was just being gentlemanly, once I read it again I realized this was the case, plus after reading others' comments on it. So I wrote it off to say "Yes, that is the case, he's just a friend." Many weeks went by and I sent him a text saying I had this yen for raw oysters and did he want to get together for another dinner. He texted back saying yes he did. So last night, we went to a seafood restaurant. He was nervous to try raw oysters, but he trusted me enough to know what I was talking about. We caught up on things over the last few weeks. For those of you who have never eaten raw oysters before, they have an aphrodisiac quality about them. After about 20 minutes of eating them, you will be HIGH AS A KITE. We had big, Cheshire Cat smiles on our faces, he was enjoying the high just as I said we would. We got a little silly after that. He made a comment about how this is like extacy. We were holding hands because it was one of those "love drug" type feelings. Afterward, we left and went to his car in the parking lot. We were sitting in his car for a long time talking and playing with his dog, and feeling rather mellow. He said he was going to drive me to my car, but we ended up sitting there talking about things for about an hour. Then, when we decided to call it a night, he drove me to my car at another location in the parking lot. When we were going to get out, he said thank you for the introduction to raw oysters, then he leaned in and KISSED ME. I was rather shocked by this. Good Lord, what's this? I said "You're welcome". He said we had gone many weeks without seeing each other before, he said he wanted to get together again. I said that would be fun. When I got home, I got a text from him. He said "I would by lying if I said it was just the oysters. Thanks again for a lovely evening." I texted back about an hour later saying "As would I be lying if I said it was just the oysters. See you soon." Rather shocking. I had written this off as his just being a friend, but ... What do you think?
sumdude Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Something tells me he liked you as more than a friend from the start but is a slow mover. The friend you brought to the BBQ was a girl or guy? That could have thrown him off.
TaraMaiden Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 You'd probably need to eat about 30lbs of the things for the inherent elements and so-called aphrodisiac properties to actually have any effect. If you don't mind me being blunt, the Romans believed that oysters had aphrodisiac qualities because of their "feminine odour and visual similarity".... But although it has been shown that oysters do indeed contain certain compounds associated with sexual drive, you'd need to eat a lot of them before noticing any discernible effect. Briefly put? It wasn't the oysters.....
