hitmewitabrick Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Single guy heading out to go to an annual street fair event in a small city in the Southeast. Stop by the BP station to get a bottle of water and a cute woman walks in after me, heads toward the same case I was at, and says "I'm going right where you are." Never being at a loss for words I quipped "Oh, r u going downtown also". We chatted briefly she asked what was going on downtown told her suggested she go check it out. Seemed almost like she wanted to but I backed off smiled, paid for my water and left. Next day I take my son to speech therapy. There is a day care across street from therapy office. As we are leaving I hear someone saying "hey, hey" and waving from behind the play area about 50 yards away. I am like who is that, then I realize its the girl from the BP station! So I go over, chat for about 15 minutes, she asks me if I am local I tell her yes and where I live, ask here same, she tells me lives in these apartments near me and thats her blue truck parked on the sideof the day care. I end our chat saying I would see her again since therapy is across the street. Today we went to therapy again but she was inside when we got out. other girls offered to get her but I didn't want to bother her. left a note under her wiper with my number asking if she wanted to have lunch friday and to text me or give me a ring if so. Kicker is....this woman is 20 years younger than I. Am I a jerk and misread this and made a fool outof myself? I figured nothing ventured nothing gained. Good shape, lift, no problem chatting u p women when out but still.....
2sure Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 No! Sounds perfect. Good for you. Nice way to meet someone.
In The Green Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Well she initiated the second meeting, she could have just let you go by. Some girls love older guys, you never know. You gave her your number, the ball is in her court now to see if she wants to give it a try. At the very least you have made a new local friend.
JungleLover Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 All you can do is see what happens now. It will be awkward if you never get a text or response and then have to see her at therapy. The whole leaving a note on the windshield doesn't sit well. I think it is always a good idea to ask a woman out in real time and preferably face to face. As far as the age thing goes, I think it is all relative. Twenty years is a leap but a 30 year old and 50 year old isn't as strange as a 18 year old and a 38 year old.
Jannah Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Am I a dirty old man? No. A dirty old man, would have left an obscene note of some sort, on her car.
Author hitmewitabrick Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 I felt like I shouldn't have left the note also, after I did it. Kinda schoolboy stuff and I have been kicking myself. I mean I'm a grown man. Btw she doesn't work at the therapy center she works across the street and really not really close. Lol, I am not sure how she pegged me from 50 yards away! Well, I kinda look like Lou Ferrigno I am hard to miss... We'll see I'll post back. Thanks folks.
tincanman99 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Yes you are a dirty old man (I am kidding). Go for it, what do you have to lose?
JungleLover Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I felt like I shouldn't have left the note also, after I did it. Kinda schoolboy stuff and I have been kicking myself. I mean I'm a grown man. Well, I kinda look like Lou Ferrigno I am hard to miss... Yea and not only the schooboy thing but now you have to wait around for her to give you an answer or reply back which is lightweight torture if you are really interested in her. Now if you had asked her face to face you would have probably had all you need to know right there. Sometimes you have to ask yourself what would Lou Ferrigno do.
welikeincrowds Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 At the same time, there's something charming about an older guy doing "schoolboy" things. There's also something ultra-confident about breaking the rules and letting her call you, when you must full well know that you're giving up some control. Maybe I'm reading in, but I liked this story.
Jambalaya Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Nah not at all - it sounds really quite sweet and natural. Good luck!
GorillaTheater Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Sometimes you have to ask yourself what would Lou Ferrigno do. Turn green and tear sh*t up? I've known women who might appreciate that sort of thing. Nice story, you sound like a good guy. And if it doesn't work out, live and learn.
aerogurl87 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 OP how old are you, how old is she, and how old is your son?
Surrealist Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 The surprising aspect of this story is not the age difference, imo, but the chain of events leading to your courting opportunity! Nothing like that has ever happened in my life - quite the opposite which is why I no longer believe cliche sayings like 'it will just happen'. Anyway not a dirty old man at all, I'd be a hypocrite if I said so.
brainygirl Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I don't think you've done anything inappropriate. If she isn't interested she will let you know.
reservoirdog1 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Some will see you as a dirty old man. But they're either old ladies or jealous guys. You're living the dream, mang... pursue it and see where it leads. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
tami-chan Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 hehe..this is a cute story...,,can't wait for the sequel..btw, no you are not a dirty old man...although, I am not sure what kinds of music or what not you guys will have in common. Live, discover and enjoy!
Green Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I think your internal dialogue is way off. I think it would have been most confident if you had just asked her out when she waived to you and asked you where you lived. You should have just said something like "I know this great place we should eat at"... Please never think of yourself or others as dirty and old. good luck
aerogurl87 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Maybe I'm missing something but does anyone know how old the OP is and his prospective date?
Green Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Maybe I'm missing something but does anyone know how old the OP is and his prospective date? No, but even if he is 70 it still doesn't make him a dirty old man. What I do know is his date is 20 years younger (high five to that)
Joe Normal Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Nope you're just a natural born ladykiller! Haha, go for it, faint heart never won fair lady.
Fouts Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Not a dirty old man at all. If she's under 25 or so, I wouldn't expect much in the way of a long term relationship, but it will be a hella lot of fun until it burns itself out If she's over 25, could be a good thing !
aerogurl87 Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 No, but even if he is 70 it still doesn't make him a dirty old man. What I do know is his date is 20 years younger (high five to that) Over 70 is fine, but what if this girl is like 18,19, or 20?
Fouts Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Over 70 is fine, but what if this girl is like 18,19, or 20? Nothing dirty about it, just means he's probably a pretty hot older guy. They'd more than likely have some great sex, realize they don't have much in common and move on. This happens quite often btw.
D-Lish Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Everyone is so quick to high five this guy without knowing the age diff... If you're 40 and she's 20, you're delusional and a perv. If you're 50 and she's 30, you're just delusional. If you're 45 and she's 25, there's a small window that is open, but it's a small window.
