kis Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Can anybody explain what a hot flash feels like? I thing i maybe experienceing some mild ones and what else do i need to watch out for?
LucreziaBorgia Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It feels like a spark on the inside that works its way out in a ball of flame to the outside - you can feel it like a small trigger and the next thing you know you are soaked in sweat (like running down your face and body), flushed and feeling like you are going to have a heart attack. It is like a blast furnace from the inside out. When I got mine, they were primarily at night, but just about anything would trigger them: spicy food, a hot breeze, a cup of coffee...
Jannah Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Yes I get them on occassion, right before my mensie. I also get night sweats with it. Bleh.
jackson30 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I can't tell you what they feel like but I know when my wife is having them, she's hot, then she's cold, repeat over and over I'll check on her and she'll have the covers pulled up over her head, 10 minutes the covers are on the floor and she's sweating all over, next time I check she has the covers and comforter over her head......

Yikes, that sounds like me. Sometimes when I wake up, my bed covers look like a tornado blew threw it.
Jannah Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 The worst is when you get really hungry and want to eat everything.
In_Repair Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Well, I'm a man... but apparently I had a few hot flashes after being put on a new medicine called Niaspan, intended to increase my good cholesterol level. The first couple were minor and I just ignored them, but the last time almost made me call an ambulance. I was just sitting there watching TV and my legs started burning really badly. I stood up and then I felt it all over my body. My whole body was pink. After two hours I finally stripped off all of my clothes and laid down in the middle of the living room floor under the ceiling fan and with the AC cranking full blast. I was unable to get back up and I just passed out there for the rest of the night. Called my FEMALE doctor the next morning... and she laughed at me. "haha... now you know what we women go through during menopause." She wasn't being mean, she just has a good sense of humor and knows that I do too. I felt like a wuss after learning it was "just" a hot flash.
stillafool Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Hot flashes! When I was perimenopausal and had flashes; I thought, this isn't so bad, I can handle these. Flash forward to "menopause" and it is a whole new ballgame. It feels like someone is pulling a bag over your head in the heat of the summer and you are struggling to get out. They are horrible. I too am hot them cold, then repeat.
