poppedballoons Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Is it normal for me to want to make myself sad when I am depressed? I mean if I feel bad about something, like today I failed a midterm, I then came here and read the saddest stories I could find until I cried.
moimeme Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Could be you're trying to comfort yourself by understanding that others are having troubles in their lives. Could be you need a cry and it's cathartic for you. Could be lots of things. Just don't let it get to the point of crushing you.
SoleMate Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 I don't know if it's normal, but I used to do it a lot myself. It was practically a lifestyle when I was a teenager. I had the sad records and the sad sections of books all marked out so I could experience them whenever I was in the mood. Like when Anna Karenina throws herself under the train. Boy, I wish I had had my Paxil back then.
Darkangelism Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Crying is a way to relieve stress, makes you feel better so thats prolly why you do it.
feeling silly Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 I agree with Dark. Crying releases tension build-up, which results in the natural replenishing of seratonin (feel good chemical) in the brain. I think it's a healthy way to relieve stress. UCFKevin Posted February 29, 2004 Posted February 29, 2004 Anyway, what's being talked about is pretty common, I think. I mean, lots of people listen to sad music when they're already depressed or in a sad mood. I do it myself. It's just like a "misery loves company" kinda feeling.
