Thank you very much for reading this! I hope you can help me understand what is going on. I have a friend I've known since 2nd grade, we were best friends back then. Let's call him John. We were close until around 4th grade, when guys teased him more for hanging out with a girl. We remained friends but only out side of school. We became closer, but not as close in 9th grade. Another guy, Tim, joins us when we hang out together. If Tim is not there and John and I are alone, it gets really.... awkward and completely silent. Actually, John is silent when Tim is around as well, but the atmosphere isn't as... constricting.

Flash forward to current times. It is senior year now. During the summer, I went to a camp where I met a guy I became really close with and a few other guys and girls I still talk to. I went back home, and I hung out with John and another friend, Tim. John is even more distant, but I tried to ignore it and I talk about my summer and talk a lot about the guy I met. John is now quieter than usual.

John asked for help on college apps, and I made a snippy comment back, because he's always asking me for help, but I'm upset because it seems like he uses me. He's so light and funny around his other friends, but around me, he's so closed, cold and distant. I'm just frustrated after being treated like this. After that, I know he was furious for a while, my name causing him to anger. It lasted nearly a month. He refused to speak to me for that long. A few days ago, fed up, I have simply asked him if he was upset and he replied with a no.

I guess the question boils down to: Why is he treating my so differently? Am I his friend just so I can help him out with stuff? because that's what it seems like to me.

Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to your responses and I dearly hope that you can help me.

Hhmm. I think the best bet is to just speak to him and ask him directly. Communicate.
