How do you cope?

So after several weeks of NC with the ex, he finally IMed me up last night. It was a casual talk at first until he bought up my bestfriend. He keeps talking about her and how he don't have a chance with her. And I was hurt when I read it. But all I said was, "I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.". How do you deal with the ex talking about another girl to you?

I would deal with it by never talking to him. that's crass. Who broke up with who?

I initiated the break up first, but he was the one who did it. Due to because we don't see each other much during the summer and because my parents doesn't like him.
