Patrick_99 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 What is it with women and shopping? Why are they so obsessed with shopping? Do they like shopping so much because they're desperate to turn their money (or their families money) into material things? Do they enjoy shopping because it's a fun activity (in which case they could simply return everything they buy and shop for free)? Do they enjoy shopping because they want to show off what they have bought to their girlfriends? (wouldn't it make more sense to show off a big bank account?). Or perhaps they enjoy shopping because they know it pisses off their husband/boyfriend and use it as a means of control.
SouthernSunshine Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I just love to shop. I get a rush when I see something nice with a decent price tag.
carhill Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Hey, OP, welcome to LS. It's a mystery. Since we men can never stop a woman from shopping, I like to do the next best thing. Watch women shop. Yummy
Els Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Because lots of people judge women primarily by their looks, and you need a certain amount of shopping done to look good, perhaps?
florence of suburbia Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I've heard a theory that women love shopping because it sets off the same pleasure centers in the brain that were stimulated by successful "gathering" missions in primitive, tribal societies. Why do men love tools and sports so much? Could it have anything to do with hunting? No idea if it's true, but it sounds good.
KraftDinner Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I hate shopping. But I do like malls... so I'll eat at the food court and walk around but not shop much.
USMCHokie Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I hate shopping. But I do like malls... so I'll eat at the food court and walk around but not shop much. Oooh...Cinnabon and Auntie Anne's pretzels...and Mrs. Fields cookies...
Feelin Frisky Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I wouldn't characterize women as obsessed with shopping. But it is a girl thing to notice things the majority of straight men don't. We don't walk around going "oh, isn't that shower curtain adorable?" It's just how it is and I wouldn't change anything.
Tayla Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 To be true and fair...Men werent the real hunters....Us Ladies were the Bargain "hunters" Editor notes: Meant in jest... True that, with shopping its about the find, quality and the price!! Check out the habits of how a woman shops...says ALOT about her choices in relations and many other things. Some ladies are picky, some ladies only shop for name brands, Some ladies want only the cheapest price ....Some are designer fiends....Some are rush shoppers, some are window shoppers...Some just like to play dress up ...And some ladies in grocery stores are calculators right down to the price per milligram ...its amazing to watch sometimes! Thats my story and I'm sticking to it! So long as it comes with a coupon
Awesome Username Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Because lots of people judge women primarily by their looks, and you need a certain amount of shopping done to look good, perhaps? Ding ding ding ding ding!
Citizen Erased Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Why do men have such a fascination with their cocks? It cannot be explained...
Taramere Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I've heard a theory that women love shopping because it sets off the same pleasure centers in the brain that were stimulated by successful "gathering" missions in primitive, tribal societies. I think that's probably true. I get this foolish sense of achievement and success when I return from a shopping trip. If I meet a friend for coffee I'll generally take the items out of their bags so that the friend can validate them. Almost like a cat parading back and forth on the window ledge with a mouse or a rabbit hanging from its mouth.
denise_xo Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I hate shopping... I only go when I really have to and then I don't find what I need and it will be crowded and long lines for the fitting rooms and really annoying, loud music in every other shop

Agreed. And I would go a step further in that it taps into our creative passion, in a very visceral way. It satisfies our innate desire to create beauty, whether it is on our own person or in our immediate environment (home). Taramere Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Haha I'm with ya there Taramere, that's exactly what it feels like! :bunny: I'm in huntress mode now. I'm going to go out and see if I can make a new winter coat my bitch....or maybe pwn a new pair of boots. Depending on how brave I'm feeling I might even take down a pair of trousers. Wish me luck, comrade!

I only go when I really have to and then I don't find what I need and it will be crowded and long lines for the fitting rooms and really annoying, loud music in every other shop Yeah, that loud music, mainly hip-hop, is annoying. I don't get how shop workers can put up with that all day at the volumes. I had a haircut at a chain barber the other day and had to hear that junk. I'll look for the old red and white barber pole next time to get some safe Russian Jew to do my hair. He can hum the Volga Boat Man if he wants.

This theory would also explain why thumbing through "Style" magazine is more stimulating than porn. We're fantasizing about our future conquests. Seriously, with shopping, you discover a hole in your closet, go out and get exactly what you were fantasizing about (a tank top with leopard print and built in bra, for only $19.99) How often does it work out like this with sex?
GooseChaser Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 It's a creative outlet and a stress reliever. Some would find it fun or exciting.
Dazzel Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I like to shop because I get a high from spending money. It's a very BAD thing because I buy impulsively a lot and I am terrible at managing my money. Obviously, I don't get this ecstatic feeling when spending my money on bills! Also, I love getting new stuff. I'm a very materialistic person, I will admit.
