Disillusioned Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 This has gone way beyond urban legend status... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/25/world/asia/25iht-thai.html?_r=3&src=se
TaraMaiden Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 And this is highly poignant; Correction: September 25, 2010 A picture caption in an earlier version of this article referred imprecisely to a three-wheeled vehicle. While the term tuk-tuk is often used loosely to refer to such vehicles, the one pictured is a samlor. Just goes to show that while the article is correct, other matters are more important to point out... Well guys, sorry, but you had it coming to you. Any guy who went for a Thai bride in the hope of having a docile little sexy wife who would wait on him hand and foot, it seems, is now counting the cost. The biter bit.....
Art_Critic Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 While the men — many of them retired and living on pensions, many disappointed in their lives and marriages at home — may be seeking an emotional connection, the women are generally motivated by economics, said Mr. Prayoon, who provides counseling for mixed couples. “For some ladies it is just money, money, money,” he said. “Getting married has become a business more than love. People want to improve their social status. Sometimes these ladies spend the husband’s money, use it all, then he’s cut out. There are many cases like that.” Even though many men are retired and living on a fixed income, they are expected to help support their wives’ extended families, beginning with a dowry of several thousand dollars. “When you get married in Thailand you are marrying the whole family, the whole village,” Mr. Prayoon said. “Often the lady expects that, but the man doesn’t understand. I'll bet that a few LS'rs are counting their pennies as we speak...
GorillaTheater Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 The trick would seem to be moving to a place like that and successfully avoiding marriage. In any event, I bet top-shelf "companionship" costs alot less than $500/hour.
sweetjasmine Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I'll bet that a few LS'rs are counting their pennies as we speak... Sheesh, why are American women so materialistic?
Author Disillusioned Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Sheesh, why are American women so materialistic? Because they were raised to believe that second best is unacceptable... that you have to be the Jones everyone else is trying to keep up with. Pretty lonely at the top, isn't it?
Anela Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) I thought she was joking, given this excerpt: While the men — many of them retired and living on pensions, many disappointed in their lives and marriages at home — may be seeking an emotional connection, the women are generally motivated by economics, said Mr. Prayoon, who provides counseling for mixed couples. “For some ladies it is just money, money, money,” he said. “Getting married has become a business more than love. Author Disillusioned Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 And I'd rather be single, than married to someone who would be bothered by my recognizing myself as an equal to him. The problem I've been seeing these days in the US is that women with large salaries don't want equal rights, they want superior rights. If that wasn't true, there'd be no MGTOW groups.
Angel1111 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 The problem I've been seeing these days in the US is that women with large salaries don't want equal rights, they want superior rights. I see this on LS all the time but seriously I don't know any women like this. I have no idea where you guys are finding these women.
Angel1111 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Tell me again why this a good option? Aside from moving away from your family and friends to a foreign country - that's always a blast. I don't get it. Quotes from article: A clash of expectations strains many marriages, and more than half end in divorce.... “Often the lady expects that, but the man doesn’t understand.”
D-Lish Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 A friend of mine that has never had a gf in his life suddenly showed up to a gathering "engaged" to a Thai girl a few years ago... She could barely speak english. He's 38, she's 24. Since then, he's paid to fix her teeth, bought her breasts, and now he's dealing with the fact that she is cheating on him with an older, more financially well off neighbour.
Author Disillusioned Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Well then, I guess female clones really ARE the answer.
Awesome Username Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 How could you marry someone who doesn't speak your language? God, sometimes it seems like the only thing guys care about it whether or not a girl is young and cute. And women only care about money. ...and my faith in love plummets!
james3232 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 God, sometimes it seems like the only thing guys care about it whether or not a girl is young and cute. And women only care about money. ...and my faith in love plummets! We're on the same page.
Art_Critic Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Well then, I guess female clones really ARE the answer. Only if gene manipulation is possible
Author Disillusioned Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Only if gene manipulation is possible Easy enough, but the tough part would be figuring out how to condition the clones against negative feelings like hostility, greed, and selfishness. In other words, God's gift to men needs to be returned for exchange.
Author Disillusioned Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 BTW some dumb sucker in Singapore shelled out $5K for a clone of supermodel Elizabeth Hurley a few years ago. He never got the clone. What a feeb!
David. Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) If that wasn't true, there'd be no MGTOW groups. First I've heard of the term, but part of the urbandictionary def applies to me, whilst leaving out some other features I reckon should be included. The bulk of the definition does set up an interesting dynamic from a sociological perspective. It's been awhile since I've been in the US long enough to get a sense of what's going on, but the guys on some of those sites seem to have issues... Edited October 1, 2010 by David.
