the story of adele h. is a great movie i saw recently based on a true story of the life of adele hugo, the daughter of victor hugo. she was in love with a british soldier who once loved her but no longer did. instead of moving on, she followed him around the world relentlessly, spying on him and showing up in every foreign country where he was stationed, living under an assumed name. she lied to her family, writing letters about how they were getting married, even though he had rejected her numerous times. eventually she went mad spent the rest of her life in an insane asylum. she was an extremely beautiful, intelligent and educated young woman when she began her unrequited pursuit. her diaries detail a story of romance and dedication to her 'one true love', but it is in fact a very sad story about delusion and obsession. i found her story very interesting, and thought some of you might as well.

Yes, that was a great movie. Personally, I thought what stood out most was this single-mindedness she had...it was like you said, just relentless.

The midpoint of the film was the most painful, frustrating part for me to watch. I was frustrated for him, and it just made me cringe how utterly determined she was to hang onto her delusions. She was willing to throw everything away. Each time I thought that surely, this time she would break out of the cycle, she didn't.

Well, now I'm glad I gave up at the 4 months broken up mark.

If I recall correctly (no guarantee, that)...I think she ended up spending the last 40 years of her life in an asylum.
