So I just got back after a run, I left almost an hour and a half ago (though I stopped for 10-15 minutes to talk to a co-worker I ran into). I went on a circle route of about 7 miles (about 11 km), and ran probably 75% of the time, (I didn't really walk at all until the last 3 miles, but I did walk almost the entire last mile).

Now I'm tired, sweaty, and proud of myself.

So what counts as a 'long' run for people like hokie who are in shape? When I was 300 pounds if you asked me to run a mile that would've been a 'long' run haha, so now I'm not really sure what qualifies.

A long run to me is around 8 miles or more, I'm not sure what an elite runner would say.

But when I was starting out I thought 5 was hard. So good for you!!

Congrats Rorsch! Seven miles is no joke for anybody, so good on ya!

And as far as defining 'long run,' I don't like to put a specific mileage on it. It will be different for everybody. As you run more often, you'll know what your limits are and you'll have a better idea of what a long run is for you. I never keep track of how long (time) or far (distance) I run...I just step outside and start running...when I feel like I've had enough, then I stop...

The important thing is that you keep challenging yourself...
