I'm not a parent...

I have a baby brother, and I see how well my mom and dad takes care of em.. sleepless nights, doctor appointments, 24/7 love and care, and he's growing teeth now and that makes em pretty edgy but mom is just cool with it. I mean I can't remember when I was one year old but I'm sure my parents did the same to me back then, and almost every parent (except the ones with issues) love, care and provide for their children.

Now the question...

After doing all that... how does it feel when a child grows up, and treats you like trash??

PS: Parents rock!!

Sometimes being treated like trash is part of the job - not that they should take it, but children who have loving parents know they can push the boundaries and they will still be loved. It's like a controlled environment. I know my brand new car works great, so I am going to see if I can pin the spedometer! If the car is rusted and junky, and I'm not to sure if it will hold up, I treat it with kid gloves to make sure it stays in tact.

It's then up to the parents to decide "is this treatment because of an outside influence?" (i.e. the teething, he can't help that, he's in pain) or "do I need to discipline at this point" (i.e. speaking disrespectfully to mom to try and look cool in front of his friends).

Kids go through different phases, and will push boundaries. We as parents do our best to support them and guide them to make better decisions and become well-adjusted adults. Hopefully by the time they ARE adults (and certainly when they have their OWN kids), they fully understand what their parents did and give them the respect they deserve. :)

Depends what you mean by trash. I expect a certain amount of upheaval and having to grit my teeth through the teen years, that's the dark side of hormones and I'm not looking forward to it. But there are limits...

Probably better than the child would a few minutes after treating me like crap.

It's called unconditional love. My kid could slice my throat and I'd still love her! I'm raising her to respect me though.
