What is the average age this starts? I am in my late 40's and have never missed a period but am about two weeks late. So beginning to wonder?

It depends a lot of when your periods began.

I started when I was 16.

I'm 53 now and I still have full-on periods. I recently had a full medical check-up. My doctor tells me I have the physical system of a woman 15 years younger, and I'm fully fertile and still ovulating.

I'm not on the pill and my periods are regular.

I started my periods really early when I was 12. I have heard that you are likely to start menopause earlier is this is the case?

Yes....

If I were you I would book an appointment with your doctor or gynae, to assess your fertility and ovulation cycle.

They do count a menopause as well and truly begun when you haven't had a period for a year...

so maybe you're approaching the perimenopause.....

Have you and your H and you and your MM been using condoms?

Have you had any hot flashes? Sweats, trouble sleeping?

No, most likely LATER sorry to say.

I got my period and sprouted boobs when I was 9. Just because you start earlier doesn't mean you finish earlier- it'as actually the opposite.

It might sound silly to you, but I'd rule out pregnancy - I am on a pregnancy board for women over 40, and there are a few women nearly 50 who are pregnant (much to their surprise!). One lady was getting hot flashes, insomnia, etc and thought she was starting menopause, but it turned out she was pregnant. You may not be, but it would be worth ruling out.

Well.. Mine all started at 39.. peri-menopuase that is. I was told it could last up to 10 years before actual cessation of menses. Good god I hope that is not the case. Anyway, it also depends on the person. Everyone is diff. Do you happen to know when your mom went through it?
