ShannonMI Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 One year ago today I met my ex under the most un foreseen circumstances. Now, today, I am going cross country. The break up being a factor. Kind of sad, but I know it's for the best. Right? It is for the best. The "everything happens for a reason" statement. Is that true? My ex's mother said that to me when we first broke up. It didn't help how I was feeling, but I hope it really is the case. I hope there is a good, sound reason that we broke up and I will move on and find someone better for me. Or fu*k finding someone better, how about finding happiness for MYSELF. Period. That would be nice.
BeagleGal Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I hope to God everything happens for a reason, otherwise, everything that's happened lately and continues to has just been nothing but cruel. People say that all the time - "everything happens for a reason". In our cases, what the hell does that mean? How does that make us feel better? At this very moment, I'm feeling too down in the dumps. And I hope that there is a light at the end of this bullsh*t tunnel.
HopeLove Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I honestly don't know if things happens for a reason or not. Don't even want to think about it. @BiAxident, my mum says something similar to what you say. She said to me that he would eventually hurt me if not now then in the future and it was better now than after several years spent together. Don't know what to think. To be honest, I'm tired to think and over analized every moment spent, every word said every "promised" not kept. Now I just want live my life again and stop spending so much energy in thinking of him every day.
TaraMaiden Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 "Life is like a shopping cart. you go partly where you want to, and partly where the damn phukker takes you....." There you are gaily wandering off towards the cookie aisle, and you find yourself in catfood. So what can you do? Yell, moan, complain, cuss the manager out for having such cheap carts, wrestle with the damn thing and get yourself all worked up and angry, hot under the collar and persecuted.... Or.... ....You can buy a cat.
BeagleGal Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 BiAxident: I say the same thing to myself. My ex would have eventually left me for someone. If not his new girl now, then someone else. My boss said the same thing to me as well that this would have happened eventually no matter what circumstances he and I would have found ourselves in. Whether or not you believe that everything happens for a reason reflects your perspective on huge philosophical/spiritual/religious issues. Frankly, it isn't a concept that I myself have been able to buy into. What gets me by is telling myself that if she hadn't left me now for this man, she would have left me eventually for some man. That isn't entirely comforting, but thats my take on it.
silic0ntoad Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I fail to believe things happen for a reason. To me, life is like a big mathematical equation. You get in what you put out. While I agree people make mistakes, there is no cosmic entity that sends people in and out of your life to teach you lessons, etc. For example. Two of my past ex's had cheated on me. What cosmic entity would want the blood on their hands that taught me the same lesson twice, and in each increment more painful then the last? I learned from prior mistakes; I didn't brush them off. No things don't happen for a reason. Things are DONE TO YOU for a reason; be it self gain, financial gain, emotional gain, etc. Sounds like a big illusion to me; things happen for a reason. Well, why is that guy on the corner homeless? Did god think it was ****ing hilarious to **** on this poor dude while we sit on our lazy asses typing on a digital world that is man-created? Hmph.
2sure Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 No, I do not think there is an entity that puts people in my path. But I do believe I take lessons away from every relationship I have . Lessons and experiences that have made me who I am, have affected my choices, and developed me. Without those specific people...those particular experiences....I would be somewhere else, someone else. The lessons Ive taken from those people and experiences...what Ive done with it...thats all me. Good or bad.

I do agree, however that WE make the choices that affect the outcome of our social interactions. It is our direct action, or inaction, which precedes and determines the path we walk to the lessons we learn. Point in case. Last weekend I was at a bar with some friends. One of the girls in the bar kept making eye contact with my buddy. I mean, eye contact. Lingering eye contact. He did nothing. BOth of them left alone. His inaction in that social situation where clearly the eye contact indicated the desire for further communication led to the outcome; he left alone, she left alone. Now he has (If he wants to get with her) to see if she comes out to the same bar next weekend so he can correct (hence learned from) his mistake of inaction, but time will tell.
Username37 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 My ex told me this straight after the break up. I hate this ****ing saying.
silic0ntoad Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 My ex told me this straight after the break up. I hate this ****ing saying. It's a bunch of hogwash buIl**** if you ask me. Simply a power statement made to give hope to the hopeless. It also has no basis in science or logic, actually.
BeagleGal Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Ha! So do I - HATE it. Another one I hate that (sorry, off topic) I hear a lot: It is what it is. My ex told me this straight after the break up. I hate this ****ing saying.
silic0ntoad Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Ha! So do I - HATE it. Another one I hate that (sorry, off topic) I hear a lot: It is what it is. It is what it is is pretty much a true statement, however. Much truer then "Things happen for a reason" (Especially when these words are spoken by the person leaving you.) Besides, sometimes, I believe, we make it into something it isn't, since our egos don't allow us to understand one simple thing: Most of the time, it is what it is.
Username37 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 It means "I don't know what to say so I'll just say this so you can **** off" It's bull****.

There better be a huge, bright, wonderful suprise at the end of the bullsh*t tunnel. For all the suffering we've endured, we need something good to happen to us!
BeagleGal Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I agree. I still hate it though It is what it is is pretty much a true statement, however. Much truer then "Things happen for a reason" (Especially when these words are spoken by the person leaving you.) BeagleGal Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 That's right! Having said that though, I know we just can't sit around and wait for something brilliant to happen to us. However, I need "someone" to cut me some slack here. I think I've gone through enough already. I agree with this. There better be a huge, bright, wonderful suprise at the end of the bullsh*t tunnel. For all the suffering we've endured, we need something good to happen to us!
Author LostInTurn Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 The saying is b*ll****. I'm so tired of everything. I don't ever want to go home. I want to go to California and never come back. Everyone keeps reminding me how 'things will get better in time', 'you're doing so much better', etc. Whatever. One year today. B*ll****, b*ll****, b*ll****!!! I just want to forget it ever happened! What a waste.
