threebyfate Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Women would say they are like the wind, they blow in your face, and then vanish.Alphas are like any other stereotype. There are some who will vanish and others who won't. There are some intelligent ones and others who are beyond stupid. There are some caring ones and others who are heartless. They just are.
MrNate Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Ahahaha, great line . And when the winds get too strong, the women run back to safety in the "beta" (the guys who are not as rich, tall, muscular, etc) insurance/shelter, until it subsides a bit, then they go back out to test their luck over . Why does the 'beta male' settle for his situation, instead of getting on his feet and changing it, because he knows deep down he's not happy?
taiko Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Why does the 'beta male' settle for his situation, instead of getting on his feet and changing it, because he knows deep down he's not happy? No,because the Alpha will see the coming competition, kill the Beta and take his woman to have his way with her, Better to just accept his position then to be the nail which sticks out and get hammered

Green Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 OP is correct, it is a completely inapt descriptor of human beings. The closest men to a true "alpha male" standard are either incarcerated or close to it. society makes dogs of us and incarcerates the wolves to live in the human zoo that is prison.
meerkat stew Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 society makes dogs of us and incarcerates the wolves to live in the human zoo that is prison. "Alpha male" is a term used to describe certain behavioral and mating aspects of pack animals, animals that are born, live and die in the same very small social group and geography, are subject to a strict, unalterable social order not governed by any higher brain function but instinctually and purely physically, and finally face real issues as to the survival of the pack through gene perpetuation. This alone disqualifies the term as descriptive of modern human beings. No problem with certain male human traits being described as "dominant," but the term "alpha male" applied to humans is a gross reverse-anthropomorphism. Dominant men seek to proactively tame and conquer the world around them. This world includes women and the reproductive capacity, but relationships with women, love, sex, children what have you, are not the primary focus of their lives, maybe a large part, but just a part. Mature women realize this and select accordingly, girls do not. Byron's Don Juan and Mozart's Don Giovanni were perceived as -bad- or -weak- men when they were written, today the bad and weak is celebrated and socially worshipped. Most of who is perceived as players or "ladies men" aren't dominant at all, but merely insecurely obsessed with perpetually proving their manhood in focusing their interactions in the world on women, love, sex and relationships as opposed to true mastery of their world. They are really just children in men's bodies, just as the women who respond to them are children in women's bodies. All the talk about alpha males today in the U.S. revolves around male confusion as to the selection process of many women, particularly young women who are at their reproductive peak, why women continue to choose "child-men" instead of mature adult men who may not be as romantically attractive, but represent much better mating choices for creatures who supposedly possess higher reasoning capacity. Then, resentment builds as after "playing around" with these child men, women seek out a truly dominant man to "take care" of her and offspring. The source of the resentment is "Why should I work hard while women and lesser men have all the fun and then have women expect to just change gears and 'settle' with me as a provider? Why was I not good enough for her then, yet now my 'wallet' is good enough for her? Why should I share resources with someone who has lived a life much more irresponsibly than me, when I can just as easily save my wealth and selectively use women to satisfy my needs as I see fit?" This could also be a source of resentment for women who have worked hard, made responsible choices, yet weren't perceived as "good enough" early on until they achieved a certain level of success, but even today is mostly a man thing, as men don't seek wealth and resources in women to the extent women seek them in men. The above paragraphs are not my personal attitude, but that of many male acquaintances, and believe it is one reasonable possible answer as to declining marriage rates and men opting out of the traditional marriage/family process.
FL Lady Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 They are on the short side as alpha males go, but they fit the bill. You have GOT to be kidding if you consider ANY actor/actress on Jersey Shore or MTV a national or international thought leader in finance, business, medicine, marketing, government, literature, journalism, or politics. As a woman executive, I want to puke.

I do think the human world is turned on its head when compared to the animal world. The poorest, lowest humans have the most children. Just look at the poorer countries they out number us like crazy and it grows every day. The idea of the ALPHA male in human society is greatly flawed especialy since it comes from a comparison to wolves... an inacurate comparison. They are simply entertainers. When the cameras are off they normal people. I live where it is filmed and they play it up to make good tv. I heard "The Situation" a cast member on the jersey shore makes 5million a year now.
