Fay Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, I was just wondering what are some good male colonges? Is it worth it to pay a high price for the good ones? What's a good price range you think? Here is a few I have found but not sure if anyone has tried them... http://www.amazon.com/Dior-Fahrenheit/dp/B00021CLRC/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_1 http://www.amazon.com/Diesel-Only-Brave-Men-Spray/dp/B002XQ1RIS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=beauty&qid=1283372700&sr=1-2 Fahrenheit smells like a middle-aged dad. Cool Water is played like a cassette tape. :-( All the boys in my middle school wore it, since that's when it was in its heyday. So sick of it. Smells quintessentially like the 90's to me. Men seem to have great luck with Acqua di Gio. It pretty much smells good on everyone and is fresh and happy with enough class to wear to the office, but really excels on a date. I personally like Marc Jacobs for men. It's sweet, sensitive and delicious. Begs to be touched. Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for men is an amazing and underrated men's cologne. Pure mystery and seduction. A guy who wears this is basically saying, "I AM the man and I WILL take you to bed tonight. And you'll beg for more." Edited September 2, 2010 by Fay

Lemontang Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Can't say I've had complaints on Fahrenheit, especially Fahrenheit 32, now that's a fresh scent. But by far the worst you could get is Dirty English by Juicy Couture followed closely by Paul Smiths Extreme...but by far don't touch Patrick Dempsey's Unscripted. If your after a middle of the range scent you could look at D&G's 09/10 pour homme, but it's best for warm settings.
SpanksTheMonkey Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Ive always liked aspen on guys that or old spice..
ascendotum Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I currently am using Baldessarini by Hugo Boss which I originally loved but just starting to get a little bored by it. I also liked Dirty English. Cologne that has been bought for me by girlfriends or my sisters I generally have not loved. This leads me to a question...when it comes to cologne, I tend to buy something that I think has a unique note (amongst the dozens and dozens on the market today), and is what I like. Given that one the purposes of cologne is to appeal to/arouse women, do guys get swayed by the opinions of women when they buy their cologne?
phineas Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 My Mom of all people bought me some cologne from avon. $20 a bottle. True Force Eau de Toilette Spray It is not over powering at all so women only catch a whiff of it. But I always catch them getting closer so they can get a good sniff in.
bill858 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Givenchy Neo is my new fav. for this one, or any other, I've found ebay to be about half the price of the stores for cologne
Author Mattock5656 Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Ah my favourite topic. ;P My favs by far are Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male & Fahrenheit. But I do have most of the 09-10 Boss & Versace range as well. If your after an inexpensive way to try out a whole bunch, just buy the small sample packs off ebay. There's a few that sell a selection as packs of 10 or you can buy them individually for like 3-6 bucks (AUD). I normally do this when I want to try out some new ones and then once I've found one I like go buy the bigger bottle (also handy to keep in the car or drawer at work). Scents are like seasons though and can get boring after awhile, so it's good to move to different ones every so often, and they smell slightly different on each person as they mix with your natural scent as well. But yeah as for my favs though Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male is great for the day & Fahrenheit is great when heading out. Thanks, I didn't know about the sample thing on ebay, I'll have to try it out. It seems there is a bunch of personal favorites for people, and you guys definitely gave me some ideas. Farhenheit, cool water etc Although, if I might ask, why is some colonges so expensive? Is the material just harder to get or? Maybe I need to smell a good cologne instead of this wal-mart stuff lol.
kiss_andmakeup Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Not sure if you have L'Occitane near you, but their mens' cologne "L'Occitane Eau De Toilette Pour Homme" is my absolute all time favourite men cologne. I can't stand overly strong or axe body spray type smells...blech. This one is so fresh and....manly! I blame me falling head over hees for my bf in part on this cologne. http://usa.loccitane.com/FO/loccitan-eau-de-toilette.htm

A well-made cologne has more complexity, balance and craftsmanship, may use rarer ingredients, etc. Most really well-made colognes have a price tag, but not all pricey colognes are well-made. Often you're just paying for the label. :-) Try Acqua di Gio! Trust me! You can never go wrong with it.
