Mattock5656 Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hey guys, I was just wondering what are some good male colonges? Is it worth it to pay a high price for the good ones? What's a good price range you think? Here is a few I have found but not sure if anyone has tried them... http://www.amazon.com/Dior-Fahrenheit/dp/B00021CLRC/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_1 http://www.amazon.com/Diesel-Only-Brave-Men-Spray/dp/B002XQ1RIS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=beauty&qid=1283372700&sr=1-2
Rorschach Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I always subscribed to the idea that natural smell is better, as such I use a bit of after shave and a bit of whatever axe spray I can find on clearance and call it good.
Star Gazer Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Price range doesn't matter. One of my faves is dirt cheap at the drugstore these days. Have you even smelled either one of these? Not really my faves. But scent is really personal.
zerovandez Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Ferrari, Diesel, Chrome. I've always gotten good feedback on any of those.
Sphere Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Davidoff - Adventure Calvin Klein - Obsession Night. (This is seriously yummy).

I know right, I bought the playboy colonge for 15 bucks or so at the store, and it smells pretty decent but sometimes while I am walking through the store or school, I smell some really nice colonge. People say that they can smell the difference from a cheap colonge but I can't really tell the difference. But of course I have never bought expensive colonge so who knows. Btw, I have not smelled either of those, so I'm not sure if its worth the investment.

Ya I know what you mean. Although, I tend to sweat a lot and the axe spray always seems like it doesn't last very long. Although, they emit a good smell in the beginning.

Yeah I agree they don't last long, I can still smell them at the end of the day but only if you get a really good whiff, mostly it's just a subtle smell. I don't think there is a wrong answer to this question since everybody is going to enjoy different smells. But I buy into the whole science pheromone theory, so I try to pick something I think smells good but doesn't overpower everything else, axe spray works well for that, though a good cologne can as well.
Star Gazer Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Btw, I have not smelled either of those, so I'm not sure if its worth the investment. Oh G-d, you HAVE to smell them (and ON YOU throughout the day) before you buy! If you're near a Nordstrom or even Sephora, you can go there and have them make you samples of a few to try out. Then have some lady friends sniff you and tell you what they think. My personal faves are Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male and John Varvatos Classic. But my preference is towards "woody orientals" like those (both in cologne and perfume). I'm sure there are other more updated colognes out there, but the last couple guys I've been in relationships with were anti-cologne, so I've been deprived of a man who smells good!
meerkat stew Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 There is a site called basenotes that is good for learning about fragrances. A bottle lasts me two years when worn frequently, so spending $40-100 per bottle is not a lot. The thing to remember about this stuff is that each one smells different on each person, so something one person recommends may not be good for you.

Ya I know what u mean, if anything it doesn't seem overpowering. I've been near people where their cologne was strong that I started sneezing and such.

I know I know lol. I gotta test them out. Sometimes I get spend happy on amazon.com lol. I will definitely snoop around. Lol, smell is really powerful. I was in Germany last year with my family and I noticed over there everyone over there wears really good smelling cologne or perfume. I went into one of the stores where you sample them and damn they all smelled really good it seems. Although, their price range was 50 euros and up. Whew!

And I see what you guys are saying now. Smell is very subjective and I will just have to shuffle through some to figure out my favorite. 40-100 for 2 years, that seems like a good deal.
meerkat stew Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Forgot one thing, if you want to get "the best" and can afford it, just go straight to Creed. I'm too puritanical to ever buy one of them for myself, but you can definitely tell the difference between that and the cheap stuff. $280 a bottle though, which would be about $12 a month if you wear it daily and sparingly.
bobdole Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I'm currently wearing Lacoste Sport and that new Blue Polo stuff - both smell great and I've been complimented on them. My favorite of all time is Claiborne Sport but that's been discontinued for awhile. Sorry if I murdered the spelling on Lacoste/Claiborne, but I think I got them right.
Gattica Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Tommy Boy and Wings for men are my 2 favorite.
alexlakeman Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I typically get good comments when I use Victoria's Secret "Secret for Men".... and there is a French one that is very good but can't remmeber the name, it starts with an H..
florence of suburbia Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 sandalwood is amazing SW is my favorite essential oil and there is a newish cologne called "Driven (Black)" that has lots. However, it is an Avon product, not in stores. I smelled it on someone at work and I would have followed him anywhere. An old favorite is Fahrenheit. It smells very clean.
Dante311 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Polo Sport by RL Essential by Lacoste Eternity by CK Pi by Givenchy Classic by Banana Republic are the ones I wear most commonly (depending on the event/occassion)
threebyfate Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 My husband has been wearing 'Blu Mediterraneo' Capri Orange by Acqua di Parma lately. Attackable!
Lemontang Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Ah my favourite topic. ;P My favs by far are Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male & Fahrenheit. But I do have most of the 09-10 Boss & Versace range as well. If your after an inexpensive way to try out a whole bunch, just buy the small sample packs off ebay. There's a few that sell a selection as packs of 10 or you can buy them individually for like 3-6 bucks (AUD). I normally do this when I want to try out some new ones and then once I've found one I like go buy the bigger bottle (also handy to keep in the car or drawer at work). Scents are like seasons though and can get boring after awhile, so it's good to move to different ones every so often, and they smell slightly different on each person as they mix with your natural scent as well. But yeah as for my favs though Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male is great for the day & Fahrenheit is great when heading out.
D-Lish Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 "Cool Water" by Davidoff continues to bring me to my knees.
