[FONT=arial,helvetica][sIZE=2][sIZE=2][COLOR=#000000] A good way of testing out a potential baby name is to stand at the doorway of the kitchen and call out the name loudly, a few times. Pretend that your child is older and you are calling him for dinner. Does the name make you uncomfortable? If yes, think about how it will sound if you shout out your child's name while he is with a group of people. Select a name which both you and your child will be comfortable with, when you are out in public, a few years down the line.

my coworker actually told me that when she was first pregnant, she told her husband that whatever they considered, the name had to be a good "hollering name" – like when the kid gets in trouble!

Check what their initials will be as well. I know someone recently who overlooked their child's initials were EAR. Could be worse I suppose imagine being lumbered with TIT for the rest of your life

I just hate these trendy "modern" names. Naming your child after a fruit or the city where you conceived them is just tacky and stupid. Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter "Apple". If my mother did this to me, I would pull a Menendez on her. :lmao:

Ditto for these old, old names such as Gertrude; I'm seeing a resurgence in these retro monikers.

Don't spell your child's name 'creatively'. "Kortny" and "Kamrin" "Crystyna".

It just means the kid will have to deal with pronounciation and spelling errors for their whole life.

I like to imagine how it'll sound as a professional - ie "and now approaching the bench, we have Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Brandy Alexandra Jones"...

Here are the more obvious-

don't name your baby after a fruit ( Gwenyth Paltrow's daughter, Apple, comes to mind) and don't name your baby after Superman ( Nicholas Cage obsession with comic books and his baby named Ka-El.)

Guys you know you are responding to a spambot, right?

Anyway, the thread is all wrong. This is not how you test names for your child. It is how you test names for your wife.

I am standing in my hallway, shouting "Mathilda!!!" and "Gertrude!!!" right now in fact.

Mathilda? Gertrude? You must be dating some really old fashioned women.

This is a spambot thread. Nothing in it should be taken seriously.

I was half serious, unless you decide to prove otherwise... which shouldn't be the case, should it?

For future reference, how do you know if something is a spambot thread, and what difference does it make?
