witabix Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Is there any culture difference in terms of dating a british guy? Will he ask you out if he is really interested in you? Teach me Easy one...yes he will, generally. Culture difference? What culture are you from?
Sphere Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I'm Welsh (British if you will) and our culture isn't that much, if at all different from the United States. British men aren't all that different from American men.
VeveCakes Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I've dated 3, (I'm Canadian). PM me if you want lots of good insight.
Author luxstyle Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 sorry. dont know how to PM you... Can you please help
VeveCakes Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Where are you from? I have to strongly disagree, british guys are a LOT different than North American guys.

TaraMaiden Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Where are you from? I have to strongly disagree, british guys are a LOT different than North American guys. Well, first off, a British Guy will say "Different TO", not "Different than"..... It depends what his background is, where he's from, and what kind of job he does. That might help to give us a clearer picture of the 'general type' of bloke you're going out with.... (And yes, I am UK-based, and know a LOT about English Guys.....)
Eve Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 H'mmm, British men are quite ugly. My Husband is a good example.. awful teeth... I may kill him. Take care, Eve xx
denise_xo Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I'm just going to assume that you're American (?) - IME, there's much more of an explicit dating culture in the US. In the UK, it's a bit more like you just go out and do some stuff with a guy and hang out and take it from there. It felt more ritualistic to me in the US (with the 'asking out for a date', going for dinners, the man insisting on paying etc), but maybe that's because I'm not used to it.

LondonS Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I am British and let me tell you that British guys love American girls with accent.. I travel to US a lot and even that is such a turn on to some guys for whatever reason haha...English gentlemen are hot and polite, surely he,ll pursue you, just stay indifferent for a first couple of months of dating... I particularly find guys from North of England hot and well mannered compared to that of London... Goodluck
White Dove Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 You must love tea and crumpets! (Blueberry jam on top of crumpets )

denise_xo Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 You must love tea and crumpets! (Blueberry jam on top of crumpets ) My British ex used to make me crumpets with that fish stuff (someone British can remind me what it's called) for breakfast. One of the things I loved about him.

Sphere Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Tell me if I was to set up camp in New York would American women take to me like a duck to water? The reason I ask is that American women seem much more a challenge than British women and I like a challenge. I believe an American woman and a British man could go together like Chalk and Cheese.
tincanman99 Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I hate to burst people's bubble but not everyone in the US is descended from British ancestors. In the northeast many people are from Italian, Jewish, German, Dutch, Irish, Polish, Hispanic and Asian ancestors. Other than language and general American culture we might as well be from a different planet. We dont drink tea, eat British food or really follow any of their customs. The same applies to the West coast, in particular the culture is heavily influenced by the Hispanics and Asians. Maybe the Ivy League and parts of the WASP south and midwest is similar to the British but most of the country is not.
witabix Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 If you really want to date a British man here is an absolutely guaranteed pick up line. "Air hair lair, anyone for tennis, and a spot of tiffin afterwards?"
Fay Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Tell me if I was to set up camp in New York would American women take to me like a duck to water? The reason I ask is that American women seem much more a challenge than British women and I like a challenge. Shyeah, good luck with that. New Yorkers are notorious for thinking no one is good enough for them; they're always after bigger and better, and that's why none of them marry until after 40, often later. My recent ex did grad school in NYC and in the two years he spent there, he did not have a single repeat date. And if you're thinking, "Woo-hoo! One-night stands!", think again. He didn't get laid ONCE. We're talking about a very attractive, very charming, brilliant, educated, promising fellow in his mid-20s here. When he moved back here and we relationshipped our Facebooks, his New York friend commented, "So THAT'S all it takes to find a relationship! Move out of New York!" LOL
