User1029 Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Is there a time period in which one should give up thinking about reconciliation, or does it depend on the relationship you were in? Could it be 1 month, 2 months, 6 months? Is there ever a point to just throw in the towel and to never think about the relationship again? I would like thoughts and opinions on how long everyone has waited before they knew it was 100% over and/or how long it took for them to get back together.
LostInTurn Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I can actually give you a two examples. The relationship I was in prior to my last relationship was tricky. We would date for two months, then things would end badly and we would both walk away. We would meet for a drink due to a random phone call after not having spoke for a month or two. We got back together a total of three times. Please remember... that relationship really wasn't worth fighting or waiting for. It's just an example. The relationship which just ended. Well, I have contacted twice breaking NC after three weeks. I decided today that I am going NC and must stay strong. If I am worth anything, disappearing from his life will make him think and remember who I am, what we had and the worth of anything we had. Even though I am going to be NC, doesn't mean I have given up. What this means is that if this is meant to be, he needs to miss me. The only way for someone to miss us is to take ourselves out of their lives. The decision on this topic is yours to make. You need to do what you think is right for you.
HeavenOrHell Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 No situation is the same. After an 18 year relationship it took me 6 months to let go of hope of reconciliation, I only let go of it because I told him I still had feelings for him and I asked him if he had feelings for the person I imagined he had feelings for (an ex pal of mine), and he did, so I stopped contact, it was more painful to see him than to not see him. I would have clung to hope if I'd kept on meeting up. I started to move on quickly after that, we are friends again now, I only needed about 6 weeks of no contact. I have been with someone new for 4 months now. When you move on you don't forget the relationship, especially if it was very special, but the pain from the split no longer hurts so intensely. If there was cheating involved, you can throw that **** out the window. Anything else, eh maybe. Reconciliation is not up to us, it's up to them. It's been 3 months broken up, and reconciliation looks unlikely now. But I have that small thread of hope.
