This isn't really a question that has one answer, but I've been thinking lately whether I should stop spending $150/hr on a counselor and use the money on activities, which may even be more productive, enriching and self-discovering.

It's a fine balance. Thoughts?

I guess the big question is what are you trying to achieve with the counseling. Is there specific issues that your addressing, trying to understand a pattern of behavior that is getting in your way with your happiness. Are you trying to grow stronger in a area? Understand your self and what motivate you.

Or is your counselor an unbiased source to listen to you, unleash your pain, give you support. There can be a value in that too but important you know why your going and then decide if your getting what you going for.

It does kind of sound like your not getting what your looking for and for you another answer my be finding someone else that you works better with. Sometime it takes going to a few to find one the makes a good fit and when you find that one the value is great no matter how much per hour.

Find a cheaper therapist and do both.

I'm sure it's possible, although, not necessarily easy.

Ask your therapist for some help. It's their responsibility to do their best with recommendations.

I think it's important to do a little 'shopping around' if you're going to invest such a lot of time, money and yourself, especially if you've got some doubts.
