Con Artists????

Will try to explain this the best I can, and really need insight in the area of professional, or intentional con artists.

 

My neighbor just passed away (at 70) and had a son that has the mental capacity of an approx 8-11 yr old. I am not sure about all of the legal stuff as far as what paperwork she had to cover assets and the care of her son (he is 50 now).

 

There were several people doing odd jobs for her here and there, but the main people she had living with her taking care of both her and her son was a girl and her husband that is the daughter and son in law of her best friend, that was living with her at the time of her (best friend) death, which was about 3 mo ago.

 

One of the people doing odd jobs for her I've known for several years and he has done some really nice things for me in the past.

 

The other person I've known a little, but seemed cool.

 

She dies and everyone gets weird...my concern is her 50 year old disabled son with the mind of an 8-11 year old. He is freaking out everywhere.

 

I find out through the grapevine that she has quite a bit of money, and her son will never want for anything....ahhhhaaa, this explains a lot as I look out my window and some people I've never seen before have the son in their car taking him from his home and away from the original people taking care of him...FTR the car was really run down and the people were clean although not "that" kept.

 

My daughter and I go to check out the scene and ask the son if he is ok...he is stressed beyond belief...the people basically "rush" us asking who knows about what has been going on and telling us we "will" be witnesses for them...I'm like WTH, and knew not to give them too much info.

 

They drive off...then come back to retrieve a safe that supposedly had a great deal of money, and jewelry and other items...to keep the safe (ya right).

 

Everyone is talking mess about the other...saying the others are con artists (I think they all are)...BUT I think that the girl and her husband who have been taking care of him are the best suited as she is like a sister to him...she is the closest to family the son has now as he has no blood relatives.

 

The girl who had been taking care of him and living there called the cops...the cops did nothing.

 

To date...the girl taking care of the son is in jail from what I understand, and I am not sure why, she could have been set up...now these people have moved in and have taken over...these people are from the sons past and have not talked to the mother and him in years...they were on bad terms and did not talk.

 

What is this...everyone is saying the other is a thief and con....

 

What will happen to all of her assets now and her son ....I mean can these people just take over ...can they take his money?

 

I realise that there are legal procedures, but I see no one taking this over except these people.

 

Another thing that bothers me...ok, I could not just up and leave my place to automatically move in with another...this tells me that these people have no ties and they are in their 50's..so mostlikely not a pot to piss in and at 50 ...what is your guys opinion...I am really scared for this guy, but don't understand this type of deal concerning a disabled adult....
