Serenitynow Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Ruby Slippers posted this link in a separate forum, but I figured it would be good to give it it's own thread. http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2008/03/30/a_singles_map_of_the_united_states_of_america/ I'm in NE ohio, between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. I am on a dating site. I have not had 1 woman either initiate, or reply to me in my local suburb. BUT, I have had women initiate contact with me from Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. I figured that metro women are just more bold, and not stuck in old fashion ways, but I never would have known that there was so many single women compared to single men in larger cities. .
Confused100 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Bodes well for me living on the west coast. Looks like I'm on the wrong coast.
brainygirl Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I'm in the midwest, apparently there are too many women there. I'm doomed.
Sphere Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I'm in a region with more women than men. That looks good for me on the surface. However, there's enough men that insist on dating multiple women at once that things don't look so good anymore. Excuses, excuses. You can date multiple women and just because a man is spinning more than one plate doesn't mean a woman cannot, or you cannot, even! Why not move to New York, where there are an estimated 200,000 more single women than men? I'm sure you're bound to bump into a lady or two. Your biggest problem is not men who multiple date, it's yourself, you are your own worst enemy. Heavens forbid, you should hook up with SassyKitten - I think you're made for each other.
alphamale Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 looks like most of the single chicks are in the eastern half of the country
MrNate Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 As I read this topic, I am currently packing my bags. Onward, to the Northeast!
alphamale Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 As I read this topic, I am currently packing my bags. indeed, let me pack a suitcase real quick
ascendotum Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Very interesting demographic. That sort of disproportionate distribution of the singles only exacerbates them staying single and complaining about limited prospects in their town/city. The article discusses the mobility of singles. It would seem it’s a case of men moving more to the west coast or women moving more to the east coast. For those that live in these regions I'd like to know why this is. I can understand the boom in high tech industries in california & washington, but what is it with women and mid SE and NY? I assume women flock to NY because they think it glamorous and with the states in the south maybe it’s a case of women staying while men move to the west for better career prospects? OP - Ohio looks like a reasonably good state to live as a single male. You would be going off your rocker more if you lived in california. I’m surprised sunny sandiego and LA had such a dearth of available women.
Brady_to_Moss Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I am from the Boston area...yay for me! Not like it would ever help though
Confusedalways Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I knew the north east sucked. I'm out of here.
phineas Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 looks like most of the single chicks are in the eastern half of the country Yeah, I have to actually use the filter on dating sites otherwise i'll get 15 to 20 pages of hits for chicks in a 15 mile radius.
spookie Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Never realized Chicago had more sinlge women. That does explain why many of my girl friends are single despite looking hard tho.
meerkat stew Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Can attest that the big blue dot in GA is mostly from welfare mothers who make a cottage industry of it, if you want one of those, please do come down here and take one off our hands, you must transport them out of the state though.
Katie29 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 looks like most of the single chicks are in the eastern half of the country We all can't be California girls...and I wouldn't want to be
MrNate Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 This map is surprisingly funny in it's own little way. No wonder everyone is struggling lol.
Woggle Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 How many of these are women that a sane men would actually want to date? Many of them are utter nightmares for a man to involve himself with.
ConfusedAsUsual Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 How many of these are women that a sane men would actually want to date? But if that's the case, it still doesn't explain the gender split.
Gallaxia Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 How many of these are women that a sane men would actually want to date? Many of them are utter nightmares for a man to involve himself with. HA! Please! it's not just women, you know? There are plenty of nightmare guys as well. By some of the reading I have done, One could doubt your "sanity" Now, now! Leave the angry kid in the corner.

Woggle has a valid point. I havn't received my walking papers just yet (Judge needs to sign them) so i'm just window shopping. But, I actually KNOW some of the women on the dateing sites. Their the same bar fly's from my 20's that are still bar fly's in their late 30's. Still banging the same dudes or types of dudes they went for back in the day that have no desire to buy the cow when he can get the milk for free. Yet their online dateing looking for "mr right" looking for a relationship. yeah right. Sorry but a woman having casual sex with one guy while looking for a relationship with another guy is just plain bad news to me.
Green Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 How many of these are women that a sane men would actually want to date? Many of them are utter nightmares for a man to involve himself with. A lot of men suck too but that seems politicaly corect to point out.

Women who do that are in some way already emotionally/psychologically depleted so they wouldn't be relationship material. BUT guys are the master of that because gender-wise. Men can more easily separate sex from emotions, whereas women inherently/gender-wise cannot as readily. If they can, it's usually because there is some latent past trauma or trigger. It could also be an issue of attractant. What's being placed on display to attract. Really, it goes both ways. But just labeling one "crazy" is a cop-out. Edited August 11, 2010 by Gallaxia
