But I'm not hung up on him, I'm over him, he's my friend and that's the way it is. I was looking at her, not without the slightest bit of jealousy, mind you, but wondering ... She wears 5 inch heels, skirts the size of beer cozies, fishnets, her boobs pushed up to there in a corset, tons of make up (your typical "goth girl) and facial/body piercings, and has a bad attitude. If she knows about me and him in the past, she doesn't show it. I said hello to her, she looks at me like I'm a leaper, hisses like a snake "Hello" and never says a word. She's like this with his other friends (men and women), she's not very nice. At first she can come across as insecure, as I have experienced that girls who typically dress provocatively tend to be insecure. But, she's really not very friendly despite that fact. We are all talking that if and when he gets tired of her (and knowing his M.O., we all know he will get tired of her after a few weeks / months) this will be a horrible scene. But I digress ... I understand that she is dressing the way she is because she is playing up to his fantasies of a lusty, busty babe. I would think that most guys would be turned on by her if they were to see her. But, there is nothing upstairs and she's mean as a snake. My Mom, I would like to think, worked hard on me to make me into JackieO and not a trashy girl. And guys go for trashy girls in general. Why is this the case?

The fact that you're calling her trashy just for dressing like a goth is a bit condescending. It's called an alternate lifestyle/fashion style for a reason. It's adherents are not supposed to look like they jumped out of a Tommy Hilfiger ad. Now she may be an unpleasant person, and that may be what you actually think makes her trashy, but I'm not sure. I've found women attractive who dress preppy/normal/"classy," as well as girls who look more punk/goth/alternative/hipsterish. The true kryptonite is a woman who balances both though. But yeah, in conclusion, most guys care more about what the girl looks like naked, not so much what she wears out in public.

Most men will find it physically attractive, but would not think twice about making a woman like that their GF. Maybe a fling or two..

If you'd like to attract a man like your male friend, get shopping. Myself, I like a woman to have a bit of this 'side' to her, which comes out in our private, intimate life, meaning not for public consumption, as it is compatible with my private, 'naughty' side. Inevitably, it's about compatibility, for anything beyond 'banging'. Hope your friend and his new GF do well

Having been at that phase of dressing provocatively last year, I can say it's an ego boost to have men lust after me but the end game of having men lust after me is that they don't care about my intelligence but rather how soon can I get naked. Really, it's only fun for the first 15 minutes.

This is what I don't understand about men, the woman you lust after, chase and desire sexually is not the woman you want to make your girlfriend or wife.

Noting this quote and this thread where posters can and do discuss generalizations about a gender on LS in an evenhanded manner without getting -personally- insulted. OP, I think there's a problem defining "trashy" girls. A trashy girl could be a girl who trades sex for drugs or sex for money. Or a trashy girl could be one who cheats on everyone she dates. I have a very hard time distinguishing trashiness by clothing alone these days (you meet lots of super-intelligent, highly accomplished, highly ethical women outside CBGB(rip) or similar places dressed in outrageous attire), and other than her hissing hello at you, there's not much data in your OP about her acting badly or having no scruples. Maybe a better term would be "intentionally provocative" women, and then we are very close to the "women like jerks" line of discussion. Perhaps guys like provocative women for the same reason women like jerks. People are often attracted to more flamboyant, larger than life personalities because in a world filled with the mundane and generic, those types are an endless source of entertainment for good or ill. There's also something about a woman who acts a little naughty in public, especially when said naughtiness is focused on you and in plain sight of others, can be very gratifying to the male ego. Personally, I tend towards women who are intellectually "trashy," irreverent, dark sense of humor, campy, sarcastic, no sacred cows, the Sarah Silverman type of trashy, as opposed to hot dressers. But still a kind of trashy nonetheless.

I've known many guys who went for the opposite -- a gal who can keep things relatively covered up in public (not wearing a potato sack that shows no figure, mind you) but has a great body they can enjoy. I've known lots of guys who didn't really want other fellows seeing the various body parts of their girlfriend or potential girlfriend. When men do go for scanty clothes, I imagine it's because they enjoy seeing half-naked women and like sleeping with them. That really doesn't seem mysterious to me. I also don't think they tend to take the women as seriously, on average, though it depends on the man how much that factors in. Nice or mean? Eh, depends on the fellow, just like it depends on the gal. Some people like jerks.

No. But trashy. . . absolutely. She's choosing an action when she picks out the clothes, and it's a trashy one: She's showing off loads of skin and dressing in an intentionally sexually provocative way. I'm not saying that means she sleeps around (I really don't know), but I am saying that means she doesn't want to dress in a way that earns her respect from the world. She would prefer sexual attention. To me, that's one kind of trashy. Though as a poster above noted: Not the only kind.
