BobSacamento Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Maybe men just know, at the end of the day, women are generally more intelligent than they are.
Sphere Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Maybe you were a slacker in school. A slacker? No, I just wasn't interested in the subjects taught at school. When I was learning about the problems in Northern Ireland between Nationalists and Unionists, I was taught that it was largely down to religion and that's not true at all. It is fair to say that religion did play a role in the troubles, but the troubles were caused by Political and Military activities conducted by the British Government for centuries before hand. Think of men like Henry VIII and Oliver Cromwell and that tells you just how far back the problems between Britain and Ireland went. I was sent out of class for saying the teacher was wrong and was teaching us a warped version of what happened during the partition right up to modern times (2004). It doesn't take an intelligent man to search outside the box and not take everything he reads or is told at face value. I wouldn't say I was an intelligent man, I'd say I was a knowledgable man. Whether knowledge and intelligence is related in someway is not something I cannot comment on, but I have met many a man who can build his own car, yet cannot do simple Mathematical equations.
shadowplay Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Maybe men just know, at the end of the day, women are generally more intelligent than they are. This was probably meant sarcastically, but it's obviously not true.
Sphere Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Maybe men just know, at the end of the day, women are generally more intelligent than they are. If women are really intelligently superior to men, then why does much of the business power and wealth around the globe sit with men and not women? I'm not saying women aren't more intelligent than men, how would I know? I just find it strange that the richest people in the world are all men.
shadowplay Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 (edited) If women are really intelligently superior to men, then why does much of the business power and wealth around the globe sit with men and not women? I'm not saying women aren't more intelligent than men, how would I know? I just find it strange that the richest people in the world are all men. Women aren't more intelligent than men. The genders are equally bright on average. That being said, women tend to cluster in the middle of the curve, while men have more numbers at the extremes (really dumb and really smart). Men are also slightly better in the sciences, while women are stronger in the humanities on average. It makes sense since in the past men hunted, which favored problem solving and spacial abilities, while women taught their children how to speak and negotiated social networks, which favored verbal skills and social understanding. The dummies at the bottom of the male pool might be the descendants of guys who survived simply by might rather than brain power. (This is all just my random speculation.) Yep, there's a grain of truth in every stereotype. Edited August 1, 2010 by shadowplay
SassyKitten Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I wonder if this has something to do with the male tendency to compartmentalize. Some (not all guys) will place a girlfriend in a small box in terms of needs she meets. She provides sex, nurturing, validation, something nice to look at and pleasant company, but that's it. Intellectual connection, good conversation and shared sense of humor belong in a separate box. On the other hand most women want a total connection with a partner that isn't limited to a few needs. That's why they're less willing to compromise on intelligence. I've noticed that too, although it's been a bit more glaringly obvious to me in the sense that many men seem to view "good in bed" and "good mother" as mutually exclusive. "Beautiful" and "intelligent" to a lesser extent. But a lot of men definitely seem to view "intelligent" and "kind" as mutually exclusive.
Chicago_Guy Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I like it when a woman is -appreciative -respectful and classy -not completely self-centered It is extremely difficult to find an attractive woman who is like this.

I'm not saying women aren't more intelligent than men, how would I know? I just find it strange that the richest people in the world are all men. Because for centuries, society has given more power to men! As a child, I tested highest with math and science, but was constantly discouraged from this. I can remember many times where I would raise my hand with the correct answer, and the teacher would give me an annoyed stare and say "Anyone else have the answer?" One more thing holding women back from promotions is that we're socialized to not be assertive. Men are socialized to fight for what they want. Moral of the story, if I'm going to succeed in my career in finance, I need to act like a man while I'm at work.
shadowplay Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Just based on a lot of the responses I get the vibe for so many men the woman is really about validating who he is and not being too uppity. Trick to attracting a man: Nod, laugh a lot, don't say much and look pretty.

When feminists talk about the wage gap and the glass ceiling, I do pity them, because they are lying and spinning a web full of falseness and the frightening thing is that people, even men believe it. Girls in my school were taught and encouraged to do whatever they wished to do as long as they succeed in what they were doing, it was the same for us boys.
Sphere Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Trick to attracting a man: Nod, laugh a lot, don't say much and look pretty. Wrong the trick to attracting and keeping a man is to make a man feel like a man. No woman I have ever been with has made me feel like a man.

SassyKitten Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Shadowplay - Yeah, exactly! I probably would not have the frustrations about dating that are on this board if my approach to dating was just to shut up and look good! Sphere - I wish it was the same at my school, but it wasn't. The wage gap and the glass ceiling are both disappearing, but they still exist to some extent. My approach going into the job market is "**** the glass ceiling!!" I'm the top performer in my accounting classes, and if I'm living in an area that can't handle women having any career ambitions higher than dental hygentist, then all the more reason for me to move, immediately! I don't frown on feminists at all. While I don't believe in dismissing all men as the problem, if it weren't for them then women would still be second-class.
shadowplay Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 While I don't believe in dismissing all men as the problem, if it weren't for them then women would still be second-class. this is true.
SassyKitten Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Wrong the trick to attracting and keeping a man is to make a man feel like a man. No woman I have ever been with has made me feel like a man. How exactly does a woman make you "Feel like a man?"

Sphere Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Discrimination It's nothing to do with discrimination. Feminists claim that in the United States, women are paid 74 cents for every dollar a man earns. The figures are correct, but they are not presented truthfully at all. The numbers represent men and women as a WHOLE, not just men and in women in the same company, with the same seniority, same experience and education. Men as a whole will always make more than women as a whole because there are stay at home mums, wives who only work part time, and women who take time off to have children. Men also work more overtime and more of the dangerous and higher paying jobs. It is against the law to pay a woman less than a man for the same job, and qualifications...so anyone who believes this feminist lie is not very intelligent are they? The proverbial "glass ceiling"! Feminists whine that there aren't enough women in corporate management. Women have only been in the work force with more women working than not for the last 20 years or so. Most corporate managers have put that much time in with the company before getting one of those jobs unless he's a family member of the owner. It's about paying dues and earning those positions, and women will get there as soon as they pay those same dues and invest that same time. You cannot expect men and women to be on the same playing field when women only started receiving the right to vote a century ago.

Sphere Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Which brings us back to: for so many men the woman is really about validating who he is and not being too uppity. Oh no, you misunderstand. A woman can still make me feel like a man, while being her own person. I do not expect a woman to be my lap dog, in fact I would lose any respect for a woman if she became my lap dog and just nodded all the time. I like disagreements, confrontation, honesty, truthfulness and transparency. I like a woman who is a challenge, who is independent and has own stuff going on and she can have and do all as well as making me feel like a man.

Of course these do have to be earned, and I'm glad that we now have the opportunity. As of right now, in the US anyway, 60% of university students are female, so that is encouraging. As I said, if you want to be promoted as a woman, you have to fight the urge to be passive in lines with societal conditioning. However, what I have a huge problem with is men assuming that just because I am set to be capable of eventually making my own 6-figure salary that that somehow makes them less of a man! If anything, they should be grateful, if we're both making good money we can retire early! Also, as women are single for much longer now than they were 100 years ago, it's only healthy that we can protect ourselves. That we can make our own money. And that we can step on our own spiders! And if anything, with the right man for me, he needs me for inspiration to be the best person he can be. Just like I need him for inspiration to be the best person I can be. Welcome to the 21st Century, where relationships are about teamwork, not about a pecking order.

This does bring us back to how does a woman make you "feel like a man"? I get the impression from so many I have talked to that if a woman does not allow a man to be dominant, then he doesn't "feel like a man". For the record, I don't like to be dominant in my relationships either. I like things to be balanced.
