I thought this could be a nice thread to share how we've taken the worst of our breakups and turned them into something good.

To Start: I have always been obsessed with travelling, though I haven't done it in ages as I've re-entered school to finish up my Bachelor's after a 7 year break. I was in a long-distance relationship with a man in Hawaii who left me to get back together with his ex-girlfriend who cheated on him. On top of that, I was going through some personal drama and needed him more than anything! I was supposed to be flying to Hawaii a week from tomorrow to visit him, and he paid for the ticket.

Things started looking up when I discovered that I could get a year-long working holiday visa for Ireland, as I've wanted to go to Europe for ages. I've started working towards that, but it's still a while away as I finish my degree at the end of 2011.

Then, today, my Spanish professor suggested calling the airline to see if I could change the route, she was confident that all I'd have to pay was a change fee. Turns out she was right, and I have scored a ticket to Montreal for a week for $76 from Atlanta, and I fly there Saturday next week!! I've never been but have been meaning to go there for ages.

So, thanks to douchebag ex, I am about to go on my first vacation in 2 years, except not to see him!!!! :D:D:D:D

Thank you, I'm so excited!! I have been to Canada before, but it was Niagra Falls and Toronto when I was a kid, so this will be the first time going as an adult and going to the French-speaking part. I'll be staying in a hostel as well, so hopefully a great way to network for my upcoming Europe trip.

Which airline? There might be other perks you can avail yourself of on this trip ;)

If you truly enjoy travel, and want to learn how to do it on the cheap and travel in comfort, google Flyertalk.

Enjoy your trip!

Delta. I'm definitely getting my frequent flier points for this too!

Great thread, SK!

I've started training for a triathlon, which is something I've never done before. So, at least 5 days a week, I've been running or swimming (or both), doing some yoga, and lifting weights. I'm picking up my road bike out of storage today! :)

I'm getting out and about - going to an art gallery opening event tomorrow night.

I've had the opportunity to travel extensively for the last few months.

Traveling is fantastic, especially solo, I've found. Never thought it would be that way, but it is so much fun! I spent quite a bit of time in Europe and SE Asia recently.

Enjoy Montreal - It's a fabulous city! :):) I was there this year for a few days.

I don't know if it is because I am spiteful or not, (probably spite) but I cut my hair to a haircut my ex always wanted me to get. I actually really like it and get a lot of complements on it.

I started to car shop and with all the extra money I am saving because I don't have to pay for 2 people anymore I think I will get a nicer car than originally planned.
