Lauriebell82 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I heard this is bad for you and ineffective. What are your opinions? I have switched my workout schedule back to nights (like 11:00 pm or midnight) instead of in the late morning and dropped 10 pounds!
USMCHokie Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I heard this is bad for you and ineffective. What are your opinions? Poppycock. The best time to workout is the time that you have the most energy and focus...for me, I spent the majority of my training days closing the gym at night since I was the most energetic at that time and was able to train the hardest...I am completely worthless in the mornings, and whenever I'm forced to train in the mornings, I have seen a substantial drop in performance...
tman666 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hokie is once again correct. The effectiveness of the workout has a lot to do with performance. If your performance is best in the evening, then train in the evening. If you perform best in the morning, train in the mornings. Most people that I know (especially those who do high intensity weight training) cannot train in the mornings. Their bodies are simply not yet hydrated or pre-fueled enough to perform such tasks safely and effectively. If I had a completely free schedule, the earliest I'd be able to train is about 3:00 p.m. Before that, I would need to warm up for a much longer period before I felt comfortable trying to push myself.
spirowilliam Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I suggest that not need to do the exercise in midnight because it is not any useful for the health and also you are tired from your routine work. If you want to do the exercise then do it when you wake up like in afternoon. I prefer the exercise as swimming because it burn the fat and absorb it to maintain the health.

From what I read it has a lot to do with your core temperature. It's higher in the evenings. I'm deffinetly stronger AFTER work than in the morning. But, I got my kids at night so it just won't happen.
skydiveaddict Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 If I work out at night it seems to make it difficult trying to sleep. I stay amped up for too long after a hard go in the weight room
xxxheartbrokenxxx Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I often do late night workouts. It is fine to do that, when you exercise it keeps your metabolism up for hours after so you burn more calories than you would if you had done nothing, therefore you are burning fat even as you sleep! I have not done much in a while though due to depression, need to get back on it soon.
Ruby Slippers Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I love late night workouts. Work out intensely, hit the shower, then hit the sack and sleep like a baby.
JohnM Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I have worked out at many different times of the day but as heas been said you need to pick the time that corresponds with your peak energy time. Whenever you usually hit your energy peak for the day is best if you can free up that time to work out. Sometimes too early or super late ends up crap for me and my energy levels are bad because my peak time tends to be between 2-10pm.
Green Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I often only had time to train at night as the morning was just to brutal for me. It works. JUST DO IT
crfsti Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I love late night workouts. Work out intensely, hit the shower, then hit the sack and sleep like a baby. Same here, like if it's 10pm and i'm not tired yet i workout and wear myself out, then i can sleep great.
Author Lauriebell82 Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 So working out at night has definately paid off!!! I lost 10 pounds! I have about 5 more pounds probably, I am pretty thin right now but I do want to lose some more weight in my thighs. It's frustrating they are like the last problem spot to go!!! I am going on my honeymoon to Hawaii in a month so I want to look good!
Author Lauriebell82 Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) Weight fluctuation is perplexing me. Does it do that to anyone else? I maintained 126 for like 5 days in a row (my lowest yet!) then had a spike of 1.5 pounds even though I worked out and ate the same thing as the day before! It still didn't come off yesterday, it seems like I have a spike once per week and it takes a few days to come back off. But the good news is that overall I can tell that I'm getting lower! I don't obsess over this or anything, but does this perplex other people? And I know it's water weight! It seems like it happens when I work out, not as much water weight comes off overnight as it does when I don't work out at all! Edited August 19, 2010 by Lauriebell82

This is exactly what I have found. I'm a MACHINE at night after work, but even at the late hour of 9:00 a.m. my legs feel like lead when I'm trying to do cardio and whatnot.

Everyone's weight will fluctuating throughout the day with water and food intake and body processes. You'll obviously be the lightest when you first wake up, and that's when you should weigh yourself for your "true weight." I'll normally fluctuate between 4 and 6 pounds in a day...in either direction, depending on my activity that day...if I'm out golfing, I'll easily lose a few pounds, but if I'm weightlifting I'll notice that I've gained a few pounds... It happens...so that's why you shouldn't weigh yourself daily...it can definitely mess with your mind...and you should always weigh yourself at the same time of day, preferably in the morning when you first wake up...

Unfortunately if I DON'T weigh myself everyday then I gained weight (and fat!) without even noticing it! It's happened many many times. I do weigh myself at the same time everyday, in the morning after going to the bathroom, in the nude, before I've eaten. So thats why I find it weird that I'm different weights on some days then others! But yeah I see where you are coming from, that's why I try not to obsess over it to much. I have to keep a close eye on it though and it keeps me from bining also because I have my "weigh in" the next morning.
skydiveaddict Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I agree with Hokes. Dont worry about what the scale says, work hard, stick with it and you will begin to notice results in the mirror. Good luck and keep goin!
shawnc Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I love late night workouts. Work out intensely, hit the shower, then hit the sack and sleep like a baby. Same here. I workout from 10pm to 11pm, hit the showers then I hit the sack and sleep really well. It happens regardless of whether I do weight training or cardio or both.
D-Lish Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I have my most energetic periods at night. Burning calories is burning calories. If you're working out later and it's working for you- AND you've lost 10 lbs on this method- keep up the good work LB. Don't do what I did and lose a drastic amount of weight two weeks before your wedding. I had to get extra dress fittings because everytime I went in for my final fitting, my dress was too baggy and they had to take it in again.
xpaperxcutx Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 If you have the energy to cardio at night go for it. Since exercises raises your metabolism, you'll be supercharging your ability to burn more fat.

Ensure you keep salt intake low, drink lots of water and take a hi dose vit B supplement and your water retention will disappear. Then also get a spray tan as you will look more in shape :D
eerie_reverie Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I'm surprised y'all can sleep after working out that late. I'd be up till 4 AM if I worked out at midnight. I usually run after work (before dinner) and even that is not ideal IMO. I think an early-morning workout would suit me better, but I already wake up at 5:30 AM, and I'm not sure I can handle waking up earlier.
Leandro Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 If I work out at night it seems to make it difficult trying to sleep. I stay amped up for too long after a hard go in the weight room I like working out at night but it keeps me up. I work out around 7-8 p.m. and can't sleep tile maybe 6 or 7 a.m.
Author Lauriebell82 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Exercise at night is bad habit. It is not effective for health. According to me early morning exercise is more effective for body. There is actually no research to indicate that it is not effective for your health. If anything it just keeps you awake, and that never happened to me. As far as early morning, I can NEVER work out that early, I can't usually get going until about 10 am. I have switched my workout schedule to 11 am, when I start working daylight hours it will probably switch back to about 7:30 or 8 pm.
