bananaboat11 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I believe in the Alpha and beta concept... HOWEVER... there's so much gray area it's much too murky to nitpick qualities. Just be. Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter (or shouldn't...)
Taramere Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I am a proponent of the weird. I can enjoy the weird too, but working for that particular individual reduced my enjoyment of the weird a shade or two. Haha... Ok so your boss was just kind of crazy. Good job handling her though. That seems to be the best approach for that type of person. Ha. When it comes to someone like that, beating a hasty exit is better than the best approach. Well... how do we decide where we fit into the social system? Isn't that what makes highschool difficult for so many? Do we decide for ourselves or do others make that determination for us? I'm not American, so I escaped the cruel jungle of US High School Life. It does seem that there's a major tendency in those schools for pupils to separate themselves and eachother into distinct categories - which seem to involve a select band of children being regarded as alphas. I suspect the emphasis on Alpha versus Beta thinking that continually crops up on the Internet has a lot of its roots in that High School system.
Author SadandConfusedWA Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 I guess I should clarify. Being loud and outgoing is not enough if you are talking non-sense. I am talking about people who are loud, outgoing yet articulate at the same time. They are the centre of attention in the group and most conversation is directed at them. Other members of the group fade into the background. They genuinly know a lot about various topics and direct the conversation while others will add a sentence here and there.
