Chicago_Guy Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Do people tend to get a little quiet and periodically look down at the ground when they are shy and are talking to someone to whom they are attracted? I was talking to a girl at my gym the other day with whom I have spoken a couple times in the past several weeks. She's friendly but got kind of quiet when I spoke with her so I thought maybe she wasn't interested, although she was stretching and doing some light exercises in a stretching area when I spoke with her, so that may have been why she wasn't talkative. I said bye to her after stretching and then started running on a treadmill. I noticed her looking at me several times when I was on the treadmill and then she waved goodbye when she got up to leave the gym (she had to turn completely around to wave bye to me). When she waved bye I thought maybe I was wrong and that she was interested. 15 minutes later one of the people who works at the gym came up and told me that she kept looking down and then back at me when I was talking to her, which I had not even noticed. (This guy is married, but I think he dated a lot when he was single so he knows more about women than almost anyone I know.) So now I think that maybe she is just a little shy. Do shy people tend to look down when they are nervous around people to whom they are attracted?
Gero Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So now I think that maybe she is just a little shy. Do shy people tend to look down when they are nervous around people to whom they are attracted? I'm shy and I don't always look people directly in the eye because of it so I guess the same thing would go for a girl who was shy as well.
Cracker Jack Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I do, unfortunately. I really hate it. So, for me, I often do it
gypsy_nicky Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 yes shy people look down or look away. But, the person speaking can also have this effect on non shy people by being too intense when they stare while chatting. Do you get this with non shy girls too?
SadandConfusedWA Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Yes, shy people look down but it doesn't mean that she is interested. I look down when I am uncomfortable, the other person is talking too much or when I don't feel like talking.
pantherj Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Looking down during a conversation is usually a sign of submission.
