What would you say is the difference between confidence and arrogance when it comes to dating?

Posted

Confidence is knowing you're the sh*t; arrogance is the need for everyone else to think you're the sh*t...

Seconded! Brilliant way to put it, Hokie. :)

Confidence is backed up by some sort of success whereas arrogance has nothing to back it up but excuses and bs.

The way I see it is, confidence is believing you are good as the person standing next to you, arrogance is believing you are better.

Winna! Winna! Chicken dinna!

:laugh:SO true.

For some, arrogance is considered bad. For others, like myself, I prefer a little arrogance in a man as long as its tempered by the ability to poke fun at it within self, using irony. He also has to have oodles of confidence. :bunny::love:

Confidence is the most vague cliche word in the dating world

This is true too. Bit it does have to be able to pull it off correctly.

You can be successful, yet arrogant.

Confidence is when the girl likes you, arrogance is when the girl doesn't like you.

Arrogance is such a turnoff!

Arrogance: Talking about yourself FAR too much, laughing only at your OWN jokes, bragging, etc. Arrogant people are usually full of sh*t and no where near as awesome as they talk themselves up to be.

Confident people have more of a balance and will be interested in you and issues other than how much hair gel they applied that morning. Plus I see confidence as namely: not being clingy, desperate or a pushover.

Yes it does which splits the men from the boys, regardless of biological age. ;)

I can't imagine TBF with a man who is any less than extra confident.

Just be yourself.

Myself seems to be a combination of being a non confident doormat and arrogant. How many want to date that? I try for the middle ground and just can't pull it off.

Just be yourself.

Being myself means that I am not completely confident which in turn means that I am a completely worthless human being who is not worthy of the time nor attention of the opposite sex. Gotta love it.

I'm both confident, and arrogant at times.

I think its a grey area between the two. I mean when does someone show confidence without being arrogant? In the dating world being confident is being able to approach someone and talk to them, yet you'd have to be a little arrogant to expect an outcome.

Posted

Confidence is something that is exuded, not shouted from the roof tops. A guy who walks with his head held high, comfortably approaches me and introduces himself, and talks to me without seeming nervous, is confident.

A guy who walks around admiring himself in mirrors, laughing at his own jokes, and approaches me with anything utilizing the word "baby" when he doesn't even know me, I perceive as arrogant.

But hey, arrogant guys are the most fun to reject. :D "Aww, sowwy, did I hurt your pwecious wittle ego?!"

I try to be confient but it usually comes off as being arrogant. When I don't try to be confient, I come off as the doormat.

I suppose you can't teach confidence, alcohol helps though :). Just your luck that some girls like the arrogance and many more won't treat you like a doormat.
