laRubiaBonita Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 it happened 2 weeks ago... it's the little piggy that ate roast beef, i am buddy taping it to the little piggy that stayed home. it mainly hurts at the end of the day, when i have been on my feet all day, it is still swollen so i prop it up on a pillow. any other remedies or helpful advice?
skydiveaddict Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I'm pretty sure that's about all you can do. You just have to tough it out
Art_Critic Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hi TT.... hahahahaha Did you go to the Dr. ? What did you do to break it ? Piggy backing it is all they do for toes.. it isn't jammed too is it ?
Gero Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I don't know if I broke my toe or not, but it sorta felt like it. I accidentally kicked the kitchen cabinet really hard once and my toe hurt really bad and turned completely purple. I could barely walk on it and to this day it feels weird sometimes when I bend it. It was my pinky toe. I didn't do anything with it. I just kept going along and eventually it healed up. It probably wasn't broken though. Maybe just fractured a little.
Author laRubiaBonita Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 Hi TT.... hahahahaha Did you go to the Dr. ? What did you do to break it ? Piggy backing it is all they do for toes.. it isn't jammed too is it ? actually it is taped to my TT! i kicked a dune fence post when we were walking on the beach- the first night we were at the beach (of course!). it turned purple and blue, swelled up and the first knuckle is big and odd looking now. i didn't do anything with it while we were at the beach (the first week). i have not gone to the doctor, my mom and sister (nurses) tell me it most likely is broken, and that the Dr. may or may not even do an Xray to make a determination- plus would just tape it. so i opted to save myself the cost and treat it as broken- which i think it is. i kinda want to go to the dr. though.... just to be sure, but i am on the fence about going. i can tell you though it gets sore if i leave it untaped for too long..... yesterday i taught some swim lessons and it was untaped for about 3 hours and it was killing me. i just do not want to get arthitis or have a jacked up toe!
2sure Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Sounds like you are doing all you can, it will heal quicker than other bones do. One thing though...I walked around on a broken FOOT for 2 weeks that I assumed was a broken toe (the one with no beef) . But, lots of times, I'm an idiot.

OH- and i am taking my vitatmins, calcium, and joint suppliments
JustJoe Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 LRB, Art is right. If all you have is a simple break, then the only thing you can do is let nature take it's course. If you have jammed the knuckle, then you might have a seriously bothersome, issue with it. The only way you will know is by going to the DR. and getting x-rayed.
Author laRubiaBonita Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 well since it is bothering me more now than it was i have a DR. appt. for tmw. Thanks for the advice all- i just need that push to go to the DR.
freestyle Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 soaking it in a very warm batch of very strong chamomile tea (use 6 or 7 tea bags) will bring down swelling and provide pain relief naturally. Chamomile is a natural anti-inflammatory. Hope you heal soon, amiga!!

Jilly Bean Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 it's the little piggy that ate roast beef, i am buddy taping it to the little piggy that stayed home. Yes, I had to wiggle my toes while saying the ditty, to figure out which ones you were talking about. lol There really is no remedy for a broken toe. But, after two weeks, you should be pretty well on your way to healing. While standing for a period of time, bend your knee backwards so you take weight off the piggies.
Hot Carl Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Serves you right for kicking a fence post. In nature it's the gazelles with the broken toes that get caught by the lions. Watch your back is all I have to say. You're now the weak one in the herd.
Author laRubiaBonita Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 thanks HC- i would have forgotten about how now i am easy pickens! and thanks FS, StM, and JB!!!! went to the Doc.... got complimented on my buddy tape job by the nurse (score!)..... the the doc comes in and says, "you want the good news or the bad news?" i said, "what? that there is nothing you can do....?" she says, "yeah, that's the bad news. the good news is you have been doing everything you can do, and my nurse says your toe taping was great!" then she tells me she could do an xray, but she would rather not expose me to unnecessary radiation, because what ever it did show- i am doing what would be prescribed anyways. and if it continues to hurt, even with me resting my foot, propping it up and with the anatomical splint...... to come back and she would refer me to a good foot doc.
Star Gazer Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Hahaha! I chopped off 1/8" of my toe about 2 weeks ago, and I described it as the piggy who had roast beef too!!

Star Gazer Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 OMGosh!!!! what did you do? SO WEIRD, I'm the ultimate klutz, always hurting myself. I stepped on the pedal to my trashcan, and my toe got stuck in between the peddle and the base of the trashcan. It's a heavy, stainless steel trashcan, and the bottom rim is apparently really sharp! It's actually the second time I hurt my toe, but this time it did some serious damage. My toe is visibly shorter now! But it healed pretty quickly - I kept joking that it was still eating roast beef, and that's why it was becoming so strong again!
Author laRubiaBonita Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 :sick: yuck! glad you are ok though- and your glutton piggy!
Star Gazer Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Oink, oink! I'm sure your piggy will be better soon too. I actually heard that piggy is a redundant piggy. All you really need for balance is the big and baby toes.

Author laRubiaBonita Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 I'd sue the makers of the trash can. oooooohhhhh- Great Idea!!!!! plus all the pain and suffering- pedicures will never be the same AND you have lost the ability to use that toe as a finger, if ever need be.
