jovichick Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hi im new, forgive me if i dive straight in. I met this guy online and we got on great. Little bit of an age gap, but that doesn't bother me (im 27 he's 40) We finally met up after months of talking online and had some lovely dates. Now the problem. He told me at the weekend that he told massive lies in the past due to depression ( i was aware he is on treatment for depression) ...these lies lead to him being in the papers and spending 40 days in prison. He came clean with me, there is only a minimal chance i would have found out about it on my own as he has changed his name by deed poll so even if i had tried to google him nothing would have come up. He told me a few little porkies when we first started chatting ( he was 38 etc) but as far as i can tell nothing massive. I have seen evidence that the newspaper stories where skirting the facts or total fiction. (you know what the press is like) I do not condone what he did in the past, at all. However do i give him another chance? sorry if this is a bit vague, and mods sorry if its in the wrong place. thanks for your help in advance.
Calendula Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Welcome to LS! FYI, further discussion on this topic would probably fit best in the Dating Forum, but I'll try and help you with your question here. Feel free to post another thread under Dating and include more details if you feel comfortable. Reading older posts and threads may help give you some perspective as well. I think you should be very careful about proceeding forward with this man. Talking online isn't quite the same thing as spending time with someone in person, and I would bet you anything that you don't really know who he is yet. You can let things play out, continue dating him, see where it goes and so forth, but guard yourself and pay close attention to what he does AND says. There is nothing wrong with giving someone a chance to win your heart, but MAKE SURE that he is truly THE ONE for you before you give your heart to him completely.
