anxiety?

so it has been almost two months of NC with the ex. still not close to being over her just yet, but i do feel myself getting better and better each day. i still have some bad days (today feels like one, not sure why though), but i am able to function, although i still do not enjoy things as much as i used to.

 

she texted me three days ago to ask me to send her a picture of the cat we got while we were together, and i just ignored it. not sure if i did the right thing or not. at least i know i'm strong enough to ignore her, though. also, i've been working out A LOT and i'm starting to look really good. i'm probably in the best shape i've ever been in right now just because i have nothing better to do but work out, lol. so yes, the healing has begun.

 

anyways, i was just wondering if anybody else out there has developed a case of some serious anxiety over their breakup. i feel like i don't miss HER anymore, just the companionship, but what makes every day so hard to go through is that i'm constantly walking around with this pit of despair/anxiety in my stomach. also, i find myself worrying a great deal more about things than i should be. i started going to a therapist, he said he thinks i may have "situational adjustment disorder"? don't know what that is, but is feeling like this normal? or am i really messed up?

To me, yes, the feelings you describe are perfectly normal under the circumstances. If you're feeling the exact same (or worse) level of despair in another two or three months...then that could be indicating depression.

 

It is your mental-emotional health and you are ultimately responsible for all of it, so you might want to Google "situational adjustment disorder". I would keep in mind, though, that Big Pharma keep manufacturing new "disorders" (and successfully lobbying to get them in the DSM) so that they can push their latest psychotropics.

 

Additionally, you might want to ask your therapist what he's talking about, what non-drug course of treatment he has planned, what you need to be doing outside of session, and what outcomes you can expect.
